Looks like the trend in resurrecting classic horror flicks continues as the marketing campaign for Nia DaCosta’s Candyman kicked off today. Fans of the original film series received a teaser trailer and a gorgeous poster, slicked with bees and honey, to go with the announcement that the official trailer is coming this Thursday! We also got a release date, folks! Mark your calendars for June 12th, 2020 and prepare to be hooked.
Co-written and produced by Jordan Peele, this Candyman is described as a “spiritual squeal” or an ode to the 1992 classic, which is set to take place in the very neighborhood where the legend began; the now-gentrified section of Chicago where the Cabrini-Green housing projects once stood.
The teaser gives viewers a first look at the new cast breaking the golden rule of uttering Candyman’s name. The cast features Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Colman Domingo, Teyonah Parris and the original Candyman himself, Tony Todd!
Check out the teaser below and be sure to check back here Thursday for the full trailer!
Dare to say his name.
