Only a couple days after it was announced that Len Wiseman (Underworld, The Gifted) would be directing the Swamp Thing pilot episode, we have our first casting. And it’s an exciting one! We learned that our leading lady will be played by none other than Crystal Reed (Gotham, Teen Wolf)! Additionally, we learned a little bit more about her character, thanks to Deadline. She’s in for a heck of a ride in the swamp!

The story is set to focus on Arcane and her discovery in the Louisiana swamps. Something seems to be poisoning them, but she discovers it’s actually a lot more complicated than that. Today we learned that she’ll actually be a Doctor, revealed to us in her character description. “Smart and caring, CDC Doctor Abby Arcane’s (Reed) strong sense of empathy puts her at the center of a horrific life-threatening epidemic in her hometown, where she faces emotional demons from her past… while a chance meeting with scientist Alec Holland takes her into a world of horror and the supernatural, and of the elemental creature known as Swamp Thing.” And for those fans of the Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson comic, Alec Holland is a scientist who is very well acquainted with Swamp Thing.

Reed has recently come off a run as Sofia Falcone in the hit series Gotham. So this marks a second DC series for the actress! She turned to Twitter to celebrate the casting, expressing her excitement in the role by saying, “I’m so thrilled to be a part of this!! Excited to share with you guys!!”. We’re pretty excited for her to join as well! This is a wonderful opportunity to show that female-led shows are the future for superhero media. I’m also really looking forward to the casting of Alec. We’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for more information on this James Wan (Aquaman) produced series.

What do you think of the casting? Are you looking forward to seeing more about Swamp Thing? Let us know! Be sure to come back to Geek Girl Authority for more DC Universe news. Swamp Thing will debut on the DC streaming service sometime in 2019.
