Last week’s Supernatural was funny. In “Gamblers,” Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) test Lady Luck to get their mojo back. Castiel (Misha Collins) gets news about Jack (Alexander Calvert)!
THEN
Chuck (Rob Benedict) made the Winchesters average and they didn’t know exactly how to handle it. They made a visit to old pal Garth (DJ Qualls) who told them about a place in Alaska where they can get their mojo back.
When Jack died…last season…Death, aka Billie (Lisa Berry) and the Nothing were waiting for him in the Big Empty. They needed to talk to Jack about something important.

NOW
Cas returns to the bunker and finds a note that the Winchesters are in Alaska. While he waits, he gets a call from Sheriff Evans (Kahlil Ashanti) from Cushing, Oklahoma. He has information about Jack Kline. Castiel…or Agent Lizzo takes the case!
The brothers are on their way to Alaska and have run out of money. Dean ate all of the food in the car, so they have to share a slice of pie. Sam is skeptical about the place of luck. It’s not in the lore and no one has ever heard of it, except Garth. Dean says God is coming for them. He wants them to be weak when he returns. They have to try.
The waitress at a diner tells them about an urban legend about a magic pool hall. If a person goes up there and wins, they get lucky. But no one ever returns. Dean likes the idea of playing pool for luck but Sam is still skeptical. Neither brother are new to the game of pool. They even hustled pool to get money to eat when they were young.
JACK’S BACK
Sheriff Evans sends Cas a video of Jack attacking a doctor. After Jack kills the doctor, he eats his heart. The people of Cushing are spooked by the whole thing. Cas goes to the doctor’s office to investigate and finds a case with a Grigori blade inside. The doctor wasn’t what he said he was. Jack follows a man with the same kind of case. He’s hunting the Grigori Angels.
Jack goes inside of a warehouse and the Grigori catches him. Later, the police and Cas show up and find blood. The Sheriff tells Cas about an abandoned church. The Grigori took Jack to the church to torture and kill him. Jack has kill all of the watchers but one. The Grigori wants to know why Jack is killing his kind. Jack killed the doctor because he feeding on the souls of the humans he was supposed to heal. This Grigori feeds on children. Cas shows up and kills the Grigori. He looks at Jack to make sure it’s him. And it is!!
LUCK BE A LADY
The Winchesters find the pool hall and ask the bartender, Evie (Hanneke Talbot) about entering the game. She refers them to Pax (Stephen Huszar). Pax asks if they know how they wager. They admit they don’t have much money, but Pax says they don’t use money. He tests their luck by having Dean touch a coin. Their luck isn’t bad, but it’s not good…just average.
The game is simple. They play for luck. The luck is in the coin. If they win, their fortune will change. If they lose, the face on the coin will start to fade. They can keep playing to try and change their luck. Once the coin is blank, they have to leave.
Sam asks who owns the pool hall, but Pax doesn’t know. Dean asks if they can split the luck. Pax says it’s his luck, he can do whatever he wants with it. Sam pull Dean aside and doesn’t want to him to play. Dean is confident that he can win, so Sam lets him play.
HUSTLE AND FLOW
Dean pretends to be nervous on his first game and plays against a woman named Moira (Lynda Boyd). While they play Sam talks to Evie. He thinks the place might be bewitched, but Evie says it’s nothing like that. She tells him everyone story. Some people have been there a long time. Some losers who are trying to get their luck back. Others winners who didn’t walk away when they should have.
Sam warns Dean that the pool hall sucks you in. Dean understands and wants to play one more game. He thinks he’s Paul Newman in the Hustler. He picks a cowboy named Joey Six. Everyone stops to watch and Dean gets Joey talking his time in the professional bull riding circuit. Dean beats Joey and his coin fades away. Sam watches Joey leave the pool hall, wincing as he walks by. They go outside to check on him. Joey has cancer and his time is up.
GODS AND MONSTERS
Dean is ready to go, but Sam wants to save everyone. Plus he’s not sure if Dean won enough luck to defeat Chuck. Dean tests his luck by taking Baby for a ride around the block. If she’s good to go, then they will leave. Sam talks to everyone in the pool hall about why they are there. He realizes all of them, including Evie are trapped in the pool hall.
Dean returns and says Baby died before he could get out of the driveway. Sam doesn’t understand. If Joey Six beat a lot of people then all of their luck should be Dean’s luck. That means someone it taking some of the winning luck. The face on the coin is that of Atrox Fortuna, the Roman Goddess of Luck.
They ask Evie about the Goddess. It turns out that Evie is trapped there. She lost and the Goddess gave her a job. As long as Evie works there she can live, but never leave. Why does this remind me of Hotel California? Sam asks if the Goddess is there but Evie only talks to Pax, the Goddess’ son.
They confront Pax and finds out that Moira is Atrox Fortuna. Dean challenges Moira, but she doesn’t like the odds. Now Sam…Moira is eager to play Sam. He agrees, but on one condition. If he wins, Moira has to let everyone go. Moira doesn’t agree to those terms. She only plays for luck.
GAMBLERS
While they play, Moira asks what they are playing for. They admit that God cursed them. She starts talking about why God created the Roman, Greek and other gods. So someone could take the blame when things go wrong. While she’s talking, Sam beats Moira. She asks for another game. If Moira wins, she gets their lives. If they win she will give them the luck of the heroes to face God. Sam agrees, but says he wants to save everyone in the pool hall too. Moira agrees and wins.
Sam and Dean are able to leave without being killed. The people in the pool hall follow them out shortly after. Evie reveals that Moira is shutting the place down because of the Winchesters. She thought their kind…heroes…were extinct. She also has a message. Don’t play God’s game, make him play their game. Evie gives Sam a coin and as soon as he touches it, the coin glows. Dean takes the coin and it glows for him. They jump in the car and Baby starts right up! The Winchesters are back!
REUNITED
The brothers return to the bunker after a nice juicy bacon double cheeseburger that they bought with the hexed credit cards. Dean had two without any heartburn. He also bought some scratchers but didn’t win anything. You can’t have it all Dean.
They see Cas and he reveals that Jack is with him. Jack says hello and Cas assures them that it’s really him. Sam hugs the kid as Dean just stares into his eyes. They all sit down for a beer and Jack explains what happened in Cushing.
Billie was hiding Jack from God. Jack wanted to return, but if he came home while God was on Earth, God would sense it. Jack says God is scared of him and he would have killed him again. When God went off world, Billie released Jack with instructions on how to become stronger than God…so he can kill him.
