Nothing like divine intervention to mess things up on Supernatural.  In “Proverbs 17:3”, Chuck (Rob Benedict) sends the Winchesters a present.

The Winchesters’ freedom from Chuck cost them a lot.  Rowena (Ruth Connell), Jack (Alexander Calvert), Ketch (David Haydn-Jones) and Cas (Misha Collins) has disappeared.  It’s just Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) now. But they got their freedom…or so they thought.  Chuck started writing again, but this time he wants to hurt the Winchesters.

Sam has been texting Cas to make sure he’s okay, but Cas isn’t answering. He’s preparing for a hunt while Dean gets the snacks for the trip, including Ghost Pepper Jerky.  Sam warns him that ghost peppers are extremely hot, but Dean thinks he can handle it. He can’t. And Sam is amused.

Sam is still having strange dreams where he is evil and he kills Dean. The first dream this week, he’s possessed by Lucifer.  Dean tries to kill him with the Colt gun, but it doesn’t work. Samifer burns Dean to death for even trying. Then Sam wakes up in the car on their way to Colorado. Dean asks about the dreams, but Sam doesn’t want to talk about it.

This weeks hunt takes the boys to Black Forest, Colorado where three girls were attacked by a wild animal. Two girls died and the survivor isn’t saying much about the attack.  The boys pose as Fish and Wildlife agents Mark Hamil and Dean Ford. Dean used pictures of the guys when they were babies! And he insists that he still has that baby face.

They don’t get much information from the sheriff. At first she says the attack was either a mountain lion or a psychotic bear. Then she says the scene was too clean to be an animal attack.  Either way, they get the location of the survivor, Ashley Monroe (Anna Grace Barlow).

Ashley doesn’t want to talk in front of the hospital staff, but she will talk to Dean alone.  She’s still reluctant, so Dean assures her that there isn’t anything she could say that would surprise him.

Ashley says a man attacked her and her friends, but it wasn’t a man. He had claws and fangs.  Dean says it was a werewolf. Ashly is in disbelief, so Dean tells her that monsters are real. Ashely remembers the man scratching her face. He says if she tells anyone about who attached her, she will get worse.  She says she will tell Dean if he protects her.

Dean tells Sam Ashley’s story and she gave him a name, Andy May (Markian Tarasiuk). They track down Andy to a cabin in the woods. He lives there with his brother Josh (Luke Camilleri). Josh doesn’t really want to talk to them, but Andy is cooperative. He even offers to help them find the animal that attacked the girls, saying they go out into the woods at night. Josh covers saying they set rabbit traps.

Sam asks for their phone number in case they have more questions. He hands Josh a notebook and a silver pen. Josh takes one look at the pen and says they don’t have a phone. He says they will be home if the agents have more questions. Ashley calls Dean and they leave immediately.

After they leave, Josh yells at Andy for offering to help. It turns out that Josh killed the two girls and Andy ran after Ashley. He didn’t want to kill her so he made her promise not to tell anyone what she saw.  Andy doesn’t like hunting people. Josh says they will stop, but first, they have to kill Ashley.

Ashley doesn’t want to be alone so she asks to stay with the Winchesters. They get an extra room to give her privacy.  Sam says the case is too easy. They found the wolf brothers immediately. Dean likes the easy cases and doesn’t think too much of it.  Ashley asks Dean to stay with her until she falls asleep. Outside, Andy and Josh are watching the hotel.

Ashley and Dean talk about his job.  Dean says there’s a lot of bad things, but it feels good to help people.  She asks if he wanted to be anything else. He says he’s where he’s supposed to be.  Ashley tells him a bit about herself. She just graduated from college and went camping with her friends since they were little. Now she has nothing.  Ashley says everything is just random and awful. She thinks it would be great if everything was already planned out for you. Dean doesn’t like that idea though.

Sam went out for food and when he returned, Dean is asleep and Ashley is missing. They leave to find Ashley.  The wolf brothers have her tied up in their basement. Andy is trying to talk Josh out of hurting Ashley, but Josh wants to eat her heart.

The Wichesters arrive and the wolf brothers hide.  Dean finds Ashley and unties her. They start to leave the house when the wolf brothers jump out at them.  A fight breaks out…Winchesters vs. Wolves. While Dean and Josh are fighting, Dean pulls a set of antlers off the mantle, but it breaks so he throws it to the floor.

Andy gets the best of Sam and finds his gun. He points the gun at Sam and then looks over at his brother.  Josh has Dean pinned up against the wall. Andy shoots Josh, killing him. He gets scared, saying Josh was a monster.  And so is Andy. Andy turns the gun on himself and shoots.

Ashley walks to the door and Dean reaches out to help her.  She trips and falls on the antlers. But she’s not dead! Ashley sits up and says she was doing so well. She pushes the antlers out of her back and reveals that she’s not Ashley Monroe…she’s Lilith.

Lilith reveals that God sent her to seduce Dean and get the Colt.  She knocks out Sam to make Dean cooperate with her. While Sam is asleep, he had another dream, but this time Dean is possessed and he kills Sam. That’s a first. He wakes up in the cabin alone.

Dean takes her back to the hotel room, but the Colt isn’t there.   While they are on their adventure, Lilith keeps referring to Chuck’s storytelling skills. Dean figures out that Chuck is in control again.

Lilith thinks Chuck’s stories are stupid because of his perverted obsession with the Winchesters.  It always ends the same. One brother kills the other. That’s probably why Dean had to watch the Wolf brothers die…foreshadowing.

They get to the hotel and Dean says they actually forgot the gun.  Lilith starts slicing Dean up, demanding he tell her where it is. Sam busts in and shoots Lilith in the head.  Lilith doesn’t die, but she can’t move either. Sam shot her with a Devil’s Trap bullet. He demands to know where Chuck is but Lilith won’t talk. Things aren’t going her way, so she gets angry. The ground starts shaking, lights are falling, and Lilith pushes the bullet out of her head.

Sam and Dean run to the car, but Lillith is faster than them.  She freezes them mid-step. She surmises that the boys wouldn’t leave the gun at home.  It’s not in the room though. That leaves one place it could be…Baby. Lilith finds the gun in the glove box.  Sam says it’s okay because they will get it back. Lilith melts it down to nothing and disappears. That was the only weapon they had against Chuck.

Back at the bunker, Sam tries to call Cas again, but it goes straight to voicemail.   They are both bothered that Chuck didn’t disappear from their lives. And he’s writing again.  Sam asks why he doesn’t just kill them. Dean tells him about the perfect ending. One brother kills the other.

Sam finally tells Dean about his dreams where one of them kills the other.  Sam thought it was PTSD, but now he thinks the dreams are the endings that chuck is coming up with. When he shot Chuck, he didn’t hit him with a bullet, he hit him with a piece of himself.  That could have created a link between him and Chuck.

Dean is upset because Chuck’s stories were supposed to be over. They’re supposed to be free, but they are right back where they started.  Dean asks if they live the rest of their lives at God’s mercy. Sam suggests they fight. Dean reminds him that it’s God. They don’t have the gun and he’s coming for them. How do they fight God?

How does one fight God when they don’t even know that God is in control? They’ve used every resource at their disposal.  The only solution I can think of is for one of the Wichesters to kill himself.  Or the boys could committ themselves for obeservation. One way or another, the Winchesters have to stop Chuck and they have to save the world.  This is going to be a long journey.
