Scooby-Doo and the gang was a lot of fun, but it’s time to get back to business on Supernatural. Dean (Jensen Ackles), Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Cas (Misha Collins)are trying to rescue Mary (Samantha Smith) and Jack (Alexander Calvert) from the Apocalypse World. They found a spell in a demon tablet that will open a door to the other world.   They are gathering the unique ingredients and have a plan to get in and get out.

At the same time Asmodeus (Jeffrey Vincent Parise) teamed up with Arthur Ketch (David Haydn-Jones) to find Jack before the Winchesters and Lucifer could.  Asmodeus has a secret weapon to use against Lucifer…Archangel Gabriel (Richard Speight Jr.). That’s right, The Trickster Lives! But what is Asmodeus really doing with Gabriel?

In “The Thing,” the boys find the final piece, but…sigh…nothing is ever easy for the Winchesters.

Flashback

The Men of Letters have been around for a long time and had several chapters around the world.  In Rhode Island, 1925, a the Men of Letters drag a young woman into a secret room.  They lay her on an alter, chant and mix a spell to open a tear into another dimension.  A monster’s tentacles emerge through the tear and straight for the woman.

Present Day

Sam takes a quick nap from researching the Seal of Solomon and Dean takes the opportunity to put post its on Sam’s back.  That’s funny because they are the only two people in the bunker. When Sam wakes up, he tells Dean that they need to find a book on the Seal of Solomon.  To the library because Dean loves books!

While Sam is trying to reach the notes on his back, Dean finds information about the Seal of Solomon. The Men of Letters found Solomon’s treasure in 1917.  A crystal that glowed an “unearthly glow” is what the brothers need to cast their spell.  The crystal was sent to an outpost in Rhode Island.

The guys go to Rhode Island and easily find the Men of Letters bunker.  Sam find a stack of papers with the Sign of Solomon logo.  Dean finds a young woman chained to the sacrificial alter.  Her name is Sandy Porter (Magda Apanowicz).  She is the young woman that appeared to be sacrificed in 1925, but she hasn’t aged a day.  The brothers save her, grab the Solomon papers and leave the bunker.

This is Not the Girl You’re Looking For

They head to a local diner and fill Sandy in on today’s world.  The cook at the diner recognizes Sandy and calls a woman at the bunker saying they have a problem.  The cook puts some kind of drug in the trio’s food.  The woman from the bunker arrives with several people in hooded cloaks.  A local patron sees the hooded figures outside and calls attention to them.  Sam takes a bite of his food and is immediately affected.  The cook attacks Dean, the hooded figures enter the diner and go after Sandy as well.  Sandy hides while Dean fights off the guys in hoods. The cook hoods Sam and takes him into the woods. The fight ends and the hooded people surround the diner. Sandy removes one of the cloaks from a guy knocked out on the floor and finds that he’s a policeman.

Once Sam is outside, the cook, Marco (Ivan Wanis-Ruiz) and his sister Ophelia (Tiffany Smith) reveal that they are descendants of the Men of Letters, like Sam and Dean. They tell Sam that Sandy isn’t a victim. She’s a monster.  The story is Marco and Ophelia’s grandfather lead the Rhode Island chapter and went insane. He was convinced that they needed to summon a god from another dimension to cleanse our world. Sandy wasn’t a sacrifice, she was a vessel. She ate a lot of the Men of Letters before they were able to restrain her in the bunker. All she wants to do is eat and breed. They don’t know how to kill her so their family has been watching over her for almost a century.

One of the diner patrons goes outside to see if the hooded people are gone. Sandy follows him and eats him. Sam hears him scream and runs outside to find out what happened. Dean finds Sandy and is confused by what’s really going on. Sandy knocks out Dean and kidnaps him.

Meanwhile in Hell

Asmodeus summons Ketch, but makes him wait to see him.  Ketch finds Asmodeus extracting Gabriel’s grace and injecting it into his arm…like a drug.  Gabriel is weak and his mouth is sewn shut.   Asmodeus tells Ketch that the Winchesters are gathering supplies for spell. Ketch says he knows because he found out that Cas was in the holy lands.  Asmodeus is bothered that Ketch didn’t tell him this information right away.  Ketch wanted to give him all the information at once, but Asmodeus says he can fill in the blanks.  Asmodeus got word that the Winchesters are trying to open a portal to another world.  He wants to stop them from getting all of the ingredients that they need.

Asmodeus says they need to reevaluate the nature of their relationship.  Ketch says he does what Asmodeus pays him to do.  Asmodeus says he owns Ketch and it’s time he gets in line. Ketch decides to leave the demon’s service, but Asmodeus won’t have it. He knocks Ketch around saying he will learn to do what he says, when he says it, or he will kill Ketch if he ever sasses him again! Asmodeus has three vials of Gabriel’s grace ready to inject.  He takes one and taunts Ketch saying he’s as dark as any demon he knows. Ketch wants redemption, but he’s not worthy. Asmodeaus says no matter where he goes or what he does, Ketch belongs to him.  Asmodeus leaves Ketch alone to think about what he said.  Ketch takes the opportunity to release Gabriel, grab an archangel blade and leaving Hell.

I Enjoy Looking at Your Face

Sam goes back to the diner to find Dean, but they find that Sandy has eaten the Men of Letters. Dean is not among them. Marco says if she’s not feeding, she breeding. Sandy takes Dean back to the bunker and ties him to the alter. She explains that she is actually a god named Yokoth. When the Men of Letters brought her to Earth, they separated her from her true love. Dean is the perfect vessel for her mate.

Sandy starts a spell to open the rift.  She puts on the Seal of Solomon and starts chanting to open a rift.  Tentacles emerge from the ceiling, but Sam and the siblings arrive in time to save Dean.  Dean rips the Seal of Solomon from Sandy’s neck and throws it to Ophelia. She uses it to close the rift.  The tentacles grab Sandy and pulls her through the ceiling before the rift closes.

An Unlikely Pairing

Dean and Sam explain why they need the seal. Ophelia and Marco are more than happy to help. They tell the boys that the crystal will take them where they need to go with something that is from that dimension. And the door is only open for 24 hours. The boys return to the bunker where Ketch and Gabriel are waiting for him. Ketch wants to call a truce. He hands over the vial of angel grace, the final ingredient, and the archangel blade. Ketch explains he wants to hide in the bunker from Asmodeus. Sam doesn’t like it, but Dean agrees. They need the Archangel’s grace to get Mary and Jack back.

Sam cuts the stitches on Gabriel when Dean tells Sam to get started on the spell. Sam starts to grab his gear, but Dean says he’s going alone. Dean says that someone has to stay and take care of Gabriel. Plus, if Dean doesn’t make it back in 24 hours, Sam will need to rescue them all. Sam agrees and Ketch steps up to go with Dean. His main reason is that Asmodeus will be looking for him.  He won’t look in the Apocalypse world. Sam opens the rift. Dean and Ketch go through. What could go wrong?

Thoughts

Everyday is an adventure when you’re a Winchester.  This adventure wasn’t as dangerous as it could have been, and that’s great!  I’m ready for the boys to get to the Apocalypse World and save Jack and Mary. I’m sure Cas will have a lot to say about Dean going alone. I can’t wait to hear it.

What about Lucifer? I wonder how he’s doing in Heaven. What kind of shenanigans is he planning for Asmodeus and the Winchesters?

After “Scoobynatural”, it’s hard to come back down to earth and deal with the serious stuff.  But it must be done. And the best guys for the hard jobs has always been Sam and Dean. I’m expecting an epic battle in the end.
