It’s back to work on Supernatural.  Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) are back on the trail to finding Jack (Alexander Calvert) and Mary (Samantha Smith), even though Sam has lost some hope in finding them.  And to make things worse, Castiel (Misha Collins) is being held captive in Hell.  But the boys don’t know that or the fact that Lucifer (Mark Pellegrino) is with him.  They have sacrificed a lot to get rid of  Lucifer.  Even Crowley (Mark Sheppard) sacrificed himself to get rid of him. It’s only a matter of time before Lucifer regains his strength and starts causing more problems for the Winchesters. Until then, the boys taken on cases where they are needed the most.

Recap the Latest Episode of SUPERNATURAL, “Breakdown”

Along the road, the Winchesters have encountered a variety of people. You’d think they’d seen it all. Maybe not…fore there are “Various & Sundry Villains” lurking in the world. (BTW…this episode was directed by Amanda Tapping.  You know…from Stargate SG-1!)

Like the Plum Sisters, Jennie (Elise Gatien) and Jamie (Jordan Claire Robbins). Two very lovely sisters who happen to know a thing or two about witchcraft.  They know enough to put an unsuspecting man under a love spell. Jamie uses the man to rob a liquor store, then she kills him.

Sam and Dean are researching alternative realities, hoping to find something on Apocalypse World.  Sam isn’t as optimistic as Dean that they will find Jack and then find Mary.  Dean goes on a beer run to ease the tension and runs into the Plum sisters.  Hocus Pocus! They put Dean under a love spell. Dean goes back to the bunker and takes the Black Grimoire out of a drawer.  All the while telling Sam about how much in love he is with Jamie. Sam tries to stop him, but Dean gets away. He takes the book to the girls.  Jamie gets ready to kill Dean and Sam drives up to stop them. The brothers start fighting and the sisters escape with the book. Rowena (Ruth Connell) returns from the dead to stop the fight between the boys.

Lucifer and Castiel sit and wait in their cells.  For what? I’m not sure.  Asmodeus pretends to be Castiel when Dean checks in.  So no one knows where they are.  A demon are taunting Lucifer because he’s lost his power.  He asks Cas for some of his grace and says they have to work together to get out of there.  Of course Cas declines. He knows better.

Lucifer says none of this matters anyway because Alt World Michael is coming. When Cas asks about Michael, Lucifer starts talking about how Mary Winchester is being tortured.  Lucifer makes Cas mad when he talks about Mary.  So Cas comes back by telling Lucifer about Jack. He tells Lucifer about how Jack resurrected him just from a thought. Cas says Jack would rather kill Lucifer than hug him.  He says Jack is nothing like Lucifer and more like his mother.  Lucifer gets angry and actually moves a stick with his mind.

Turns out that Rowena did in fact die. She also used a resurrection spell that brought her back to life. She says she needs the Black Grimoire to keep herself alive.  So she put a tracking spell on the book.  The boys want the book back so it can’t be used to harm anyone.  Rowena wants it so she can protect herself. So they have to work together to get it back. The Winchesters aren’t sure about trusting Rowena.  She insists that she has changed. And it’s her tracking spell, so they need her.

Dean asks what kind of harm the girls could do with the book.  Rowena says they probably have big plans.  The girls have to be pretty crafty if they tricked the Winchesters.  Rowena thinks if she helps Sam and Dean, they might change their minds about helping her get the spell she needs. Both Sam and Dean say that won’t happen. Rowena asks about Crowley.  The boys tell her that he killed himself for them.  Crowley was Rowena’s only child. She says she’d rather have son that hated her than a dead one. They tell her that because of Crowley, Lucifer is gone. She yells at them that Lucifer will never be gone.

Jennie is using the book to bring their mother back to life. She has some doubts about her abilities, but Jamie says she has confidence in both of them.  They lure a guy from the hardware store and use him the sacrifice for the spell.

The Winchesters track the girls to Oklahoma.  Rowena says she can only track the general area of the book. They have to talk to the locals to find out more information.  Dean goes in to the hardware store while Sam watches Rowena. Dean talks to the cashier about the Plum sisters.  The cashier doesn’t like the sisters very much. Dean tells her that he doesn’t plan on being nice to them when he finds them. The cashier gladly gives him the Plum address.

Rowena and Sam have a heart to heart about Lucifer. Lucifer showed Rowena his true face and now she’s scared all the time.  Sam has seen his true face too. He says it doesn’t matter if Rowena gets her power back, she will still feel helpless. Her fear will never go away.  Dean returns to the car. He tells Rowena that they will get the book back. She freezes them in her tracks with a hex bag and leaves.

The demon returns to taunt Lucifer and Cas.  Lucifer tricks him into getting close enough to the cell to spill his blood. That removes the warding from the cells and opens the doors. Both Cas and Lucifer get out and kill the demon.  Other demons arrive to stop them.  Cas and Lucifer get outside and Lucifer asks for Cas’ grace again.  Cas says he can’t trust him.  Lucifer attempts to stab Cas, missing him. So Cas stabs Lucifer, saying he learned from his mistakes.

Rowena hasn’t been completely honest with the Winchesters. She told the Plum sisters about the book and the boys.  The girls were supposed to get the book and then wait for Rowena. The deal was that the girls would the the book. Rowena would bring their mother back to life and take the book.  The girls decided to try to resurrect their mother on their own and now she’s a zombie. The bad part, Rowena can’t use her magic on Momma Plum.

Sam and Dean unfreeze their feet by burning the hex bag. When they get to the Plum residence, Rowena is trapped in a closet. The Plum girls attack the Winchesters.  Rowena is able to get out of the closet to kill Zombie Mom.  Rowena uses a spell to separate the Plums and Winchesters. She turns the girls on one another and they kill each other.

Rowena pleads to Sam saying she can’t be helpless again. She needs to spell to protect herself.  Sam and Dean take the book, but there’s a page missing.  Dean tells Sam that Rowena is not their friend.  He doesn’t’ understand why Sam would give the spell to her. Sam says if she turns bad, he will hunt her down and kill her. But she’s right.  And if she sees Lucifer again, maybe she’ll make his suffer.

Sam says he feels helpless too. He had a plan to help Jack and bring Mary back.  Nothing worked.  And now they are both gone. Dean promises they will figure it out.

As for Rowena, she completes her spell, becoming more powerful than before.

Thoughts

Rowena! I should have known she would be back. She’s such a classic character, I just can’t see there being a Supernatural without seeing Rowena every once in a while.

Is it just me or does Sam and Dean take turns brooding?  LOL.  I like brooding Sam. He thinks of the worst possible situation and it never happens.  And if it does, or something close to it happens then the Winchesters are semi prepared for it.  Dean on the other hand acts before he thinks.  And that usually gets them into more trouble.

So…Scoobynatural is happening in just a few weeks.  This is going to be the best thing since cherry pie!  I’m super excited.  But first, they have to find Jack and Mary.  Now that Cas and Lucifer have escaped Asmodeus, they should be able to get back on track.

I’m really liking the women directors stepping up. Amanda Tapping did a great job, especially with the fight sequences. She’s a prolific director, but this is the first episode of Supernatural for Tapping.  I hope to see more of her work on this show.
