Jensen Ackles and Danneel Ackles are bringing The Winchesters back to television in a Supernatural prequel. The Winchesters will follow the adventures of Mary and John Winchester as narrated by Dean Winchester, played by Jensen Ackles. The project is in development at the Supernatural home network, The CW.
The Ackles will executive produce through their company, Chaos Machine Productions. Former Supernatural co-executive producer Robbie Thompson is writing the script as well as executive producing. The show’s synopsis, courtesy of Deadline says The Winchesters is the epic, untold love story of how John met Mary and how they put it all on the line to not only save their love but the entire world.

Jensen Ackles told Deadline, “After Supernatural wrapped its 15th season, we knew it wasn’t over. Because like we say in the show, ‘nothing ever really ends, does it?’ When Danneel and I formed Chaos Machine Productions, we knew the first story we wanted to tell was the story of John and Mary Winchester, or rather the Supernatural origin story. I always felt like my character, Dean, would have wanted to know more about his parents’ relationship and how it came to be. So I love the thought of having him take us on this journey.”

Supernatural ran for 15 seasons on The CW, ending in November 2020. The show featured Samantha Smith as Mary and Jeffery Dean Morgan as John. Mary was killed in season one and brought back to life in season 11. She was later killed in season 15. Morgan was a recurring star until season two but brought back to life in the 300th episode of the series. Before that, not a lot is known about the couple. There was a flashback episode where Dean went back in time that established Mary as the original hunter in the family.
It will be great to see Jensen Ackles back as Dean Winchester! And with Jared Padalecki still working for The CW, the chances of him appearing on this series are great! I’m excited about that!
Geek Girl Authority will keep an eye on this series as it develops.
