After an emotional last episode, this week brings a new Superman & Lois episode. I’m eager to get into Season 3, Episode 3, “In Cold Blood.”
The episode opens with Clark (Tyler Hoechlin) hearing Lois (Elizabeth Tulloch) scream for help. He hastily sits up in bed, waking with a start. Superman (Hoechlin) rushes into action as the world crumbles around him. He finds Lois at The Daily Planet as the globe atop the building nearly crushes her. Luckily, we see it’s only a dream, and Lois is safely in bed next to him.
At the kitchen table, Lois calls her sister, Lucy. We take the journey with Lois as she tells all the people she loves about her diagnosis and medical plan. Sam (Dylan Walsh) breaks down after hearing the news. Before Lois starts chemo, Jordan (Alex Garfin) and Jonathan (Michael Bishop) make all her favorites as they read chemo can affect appetite.

Lana (Emmanuelle Chriqui) and Sarah (Inde Navarrette) test out the new security system after John Henry (Wolé Parks) finishes it. Before Lois’s chemo appointment, Lois fills Chrissy (Sofia Hasmik) in on the Bruno Mannheim investigation. Because they find a new lead, Lois misses her chemo appointment, leaving Clark there waiting for her.
When Clark returns home, Sam comes by, urging Clark not to allow Lois to be selfless right now. He demands the pair be on the same page. At the diner, the twins, Sarah and Natalie, talk about Lois’s condition and suggest Jonathan tell his girlfriend about the encounter with his ex.

Back home, Lois and Clark disagree about putting an investigation before her health. Sarah complains to Kyle (Erik Valdez) about being grounded. He learns about John Henry putting in the security system for Lana. When Natalie tells John Henry she wants to give Lois her mother’s watch as a gift, he strongly disagrees.

Jonathan has an awkward encounter with Candice’s (Samantha Di Francesco) father about his truck. Later that night, Clark has the recurring nightmare about Lois. The next day, the pair show up for chemo. He attempts to support Lois, only to be interrupted by a mudslide in Nepal. With Clark gone to save the day, Lois skips out on chemo again, finding Chrissy to continue the investigation instead. She pushes forward despite Chrissy’s protests.
When Natalie shows the twins the watch, they pick up on John Henry’s displeasure for giving Lois the gift. Natalie insists it’s her watch to give since she made it with her father’s help. After visiting the mayor’s office, Kyle and Lana disagree over her security system.

When Clark returns for the appointment, Lois is gone. She and Chrissy are in a dangerous predicament, locked in a freezer full of blood at one of Mannheim’s facilities. When she tries to call Superman, it doesn’t work. Superman can’t hear her. He rushes to the D.O.D. to alert Sam and John Henry that Lois is missing.
At school, Jonathan discovers his truck missing from the parking lot. He accuses Candice’s father, which upsets her. Lana and Sarah argue, tensions rise, and Lana slaps Sarah.
Natalie, Jordan and Jonathan set out to get his truck back along with the watch. Mannheim’s men discover Lois and Chrissy. This gives them a small window to call for Superman. He dashes off to save them, allowing the ladies time to run before they hit him with kryptonite guns. John Henry saves Superman before the entire facility explodes.

Lois and Clark argue about her actions. He urges her to allow them to get through this as a team. Sam interrupts the moment with news of the blood she found at the facility. She tells Clark the blood is his.

After the trio recovers Jonathan’s truck, they realize the watch isn’t in the console. Candice shows up, revealing that she found the watch in her dad’s things. At Lana’s, she apologizes to Sarah for her reaction.
At the diner, Chrissy confides in Kyle. When he hears about Lois’s actions, Kyle admits to having experienced his father’s denial of being sick with liver cancer. A teary-eyed Sarah then interrupts their chat. At the farm, Nat and the twins gift Lois the watch she made. John Henry tells Natalie his negative reaction was just worrying. The episode ends with Clark driving Lois to chemo.
This show certainly increased the emotional factor. I can confirm that I cried through yet another episode. Lois’s journey with cancer isn’t holding back, even in the early stages. She battles with being perceived as weak and putting off her inevitable appointment.

It will be interesting to see how the family juggles Lois’s journey and Clark’s inevitable battle with Mannheim this season. The collecting of his blood left so many questions on the table and an ominous notion that maybe they wanted to capture Superman soon.
Whatever the case, I’m along for the ride. Through tears and quiet sobs, next week can’t come fast enough for another episode.
