Andrea Carter

Superman & Lois Season 2 Episode 7 Anti-Hero

Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) wakes up in captivity to kick off the start of The CW’s Superman & Lois episode “Anti-Hero.” He’s in a glass cell consisting of Kryptonite. The same cell houses his brother, Tal-Rho (Adam Rayner). Lieutenant Anderson (Ian Bohen) visits the cell, demanding the location of Bizarro (Hoechlin). Instead, Clark (Hoechlin) gives Anderson a different piece of information. He advises looking into Ally Allston (Rya Kihlstedt), warning her about the dangers.

Sam (Dylan Walsh) tells Lois (Elizabeth Tulloch) Clark’s whereabouts, explaining Clark is in an offsite prison for treason. He warns Lois against charging into the DOD. He offers to make some calls and use his contacts to get answers.

Sarah (Inde Navarrette) brings in a box of her father’s (Erik Valdez) belongings. Lana (Emmanuelle Chriqui) had been packing. She apologizes for putting Sarah and her sister through dealing with a broken home. Lana sees her political opponent running ads on the newspaper’s front page, and she visits Lois for advice on what to do.

Jordan (Alex Garfin) approaches Sarah at school, attempting to empathize as they see multiple police cars arriving at the school. Jonathan (Jordan Elsass) tells his girlfriend he won’t use X Kryptonite anymore. The police show up to search all lockers, and to save her, he offers to take the stash and dump it. They catch him, and the school alerts Lois.

Back at the offsite prison, Lieutenant Anderson tortures Tal, hoping to get the answers he seeks. Clark gives Anderson a fake location so he would stop torturing Tal.

Lana questions if Sarah knows about Jonathan Kent’s drug use. Sarah ignores her father’s phone calls and admits she can’t talk to Jordan about it. Her mother suggests she speak to a friend about it.

Lois confronts Jonathan about the drugs. While he believes XK is not a drug, the school considers expulsion. She presses for the answers, but he refuses to give Lois a name. When Jordan comes in, she questions his involvement. Jonathan admits to using it rather than selling it. Seeking advice on the situation, Lois turns to Lana.

Jordan and Jonathan argue, disagreeing on Jonathan’s recent decisions and that he’s keeping the secret of who has ownership of the XK.

Tal threatens to reveal Clark’s secrets, and the two come to blows. While they fight, Anderson discovers Clark lied. Soldiers intervene in the fight, entering the cell and falling into Clark and Tal’s trap. They overtake the soldiers, and both escape. Anderson takes XK to stop them, vowing to bring them back and kill Bizarro.

Both Tal and Clark visit Tal’s fortress, where the hologram of their mother, Lara (Mariana Klaveno), is keeping Bizarro. Bizarro reveals that he and Tal were at odds in his world. A missile blows through the fortress, revealing Anderson, and he vows to bring all of them in by any means necessary.

Sarah seeks advice from a friend about her father. She later takes the advice, going to visit her father.

When Lois returns home, Jonathan finally talks to her. He reveals one reason for taking the XK is that everyone in the family is excellent, and he wants to be great too. When his mother insists he tell her who they belong to, he holds firm to not revealing where he got them.

Back at the fortress, Anderson opens fire on Clark, and Tal jumps in the way, getting shot with Kryptonite bullets. Lara releases Bizarro to fight Anderson while Clark must disintegrate the Kryptonite fragments in Tal’s body. To heal, Clark must fly Tal up to the sun to replenish his abilities. Anderson kills Bizarro.

Clark returns Tal to his cell, revealing that Anderson escaped. He confirms Bizarro is dead. Clark thanks his brother for saving his life, and Tal asks Clark to relay an apology to Jordan. Clark says that maybe someday he could tell him himself.

Clark returns home and talks with Jonathan after finding out that the police caught him with drugs.

Lana interrupts Mayor Dean’s (Eric Keenleyside) gathering, questioning his character for attacking her during a difficult time in her life.

The episode ends with Anderson encountering Ally and inquiring about the necklace he now holds in his possession.

This episode was great! One thing I love about the show is watching the family juggle the life of superheroes and a family dynamic. Jonathan dealing with not being as unique as the rest of his family breaks my heart, but the storyline carries realism in it. It is a feeling to which many people can relate.

Lois’s fire in wanting to march down to the DOD herself to get Clark out is the energy I love. I never think of a damsel in distress when I think of her. Lois joins the fight in her way. She’s as much a powerhouse as Clark.

I’m left to wonder if this is the last we’ll see of Bizarro and what Ally and Anderson will have in store for us next.

Superman & Lois airs Tuesdays at 8 pm on The CW. You can stream it the next day on The CW app.
