Looks like there’s a new baddie in town! According to Variety, actress Jennifer Cheon Garcia will be joining the superhero series Supergirl in the season 5 premiere. The Van Helsing actress has been cast in the role of Midnight. What sort of intriguing things will she be up to?

According to the report, Midnight is described as “physical manifestation of darkness”, which sounds super cool. She’s a “murderous villain released from an otherwordly prison to enact revenge against the person who put her there,” aka our heroine Supergirl. It’s unclear if the character has any ties to the comics as the name ‘Midnight’ has been used multiple times by multiple different characters.

How will her appearance at the beginning of the season set the tone for the rest of the season? Well it might all have to do with technology. According to executive producer Robert Rovner, the season is going to focus on the dangers of technology. “This season will be about how technology impacts us, and how people use it to escape from what happens in their lives,” Rovner told fans at the Supergirl panel at San Diego Comic Con. “We’re seeing how our villains use technology against us, and our heroes try to bring us back.” With all the big shake ups happening this season, it will be fun to see how everything plays out!
