The Girl of Steel is coming to the big screen! According to Deadline, a Supergirl film is in the works over at WB. We have a few details regarding the film but keep in mind this is in very early pre-production. But we can still get excited about it, right? Of course we can!

According to the site, the film currently has no director or producer but Oren Uziel (Cloverfield Paradox) will be writing the script. This will not be a feature film for the Arrowverse version played by Melissa Benoist and it is unclear if it will even tie into the DCEU. Rumor has it that the film will be part of the groundwork for a new template for future Superman films. The new head of DC, Walter Hamada, has been spear-heading projects to shake up the current line-up. This may just be one of them. This would be the second time Supergirl has hit the big screen, with the first starring Helen Slater as the Girl of Steel in 1984.

Immediately I’m concerned at the writer. Cloverfield Paradox was mostly panned for writing issues, including poorly handled genre-mixing, pacing issues and so on. I’m also a big fan of women writing for female heroines so it’s disappointing that they have a man on the project. To be fair, nothing is set in stone for the film. I mean, all we really have is news that it’s in the works and that Uziel is tied to it. And who knows, maybe he’ll be really good at writing for Kara. But I’m still pretty nervous because I’d really like the film to be great. We’ll have to keep watching this news like hawks and cheer for it’s success!
