Supergirl season five will have more aliens to contend with. Cara Buono and Mitch Pileggi are joining the cast in recurring roles, according to Deadline. These aliens may be more of a headache for Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) than a helping hand.

You probably recognize Buono as Mike and Nancy Wheeler’s mom, Karen in Stranger Things.  She will play Gamemnae in Supergirl.  She is from a race of aliens who safeguard the Earth. “Gamemnae’s aim is to use technology to subjugate humans. Gamemnae is cunning, witty, ruthless, and always ten steps ahead of her adversaries. Gamemnae’s agenda puts her into conflict with her would-be allies and on a collision course with Supergirl.”

Pileggi played Skinner on Fox’s The X-Files.  He stars in Supergirl as Rama Khan, also an alien who can control the four ancient elements, Fire, Water, Earth and Air.  “Arrogant and willful, Rama Khan has been entrusted to use his powers to protect the Earth from mankind for millions of years but now his agenda puts him at odds with Supergirl as well as Lena Luthor (Katie McGrath).”

Both characters were introduced in DC Comic JLA (Justice League of America) in 2002. They are both members of the League of Ancients that was organized to defend Atlantis.

As if Supergirl didn’t already have a big enough alien problem last season.  Now she has to deal with aliens who are against her and not with her.  And will they have ties to Midnight (Jennifer Cheon Garcia)? I wonder if they will have any part of the crossover?  We don’t have long to find out.

Supergirl returns on Sunday October 6 on the CW.
