A new action movie, Supercell, just released on digital platforms. This disaster flick brings action, adventure and drama. Is it worth the cost? Read on to see what we think.
After losing his renowned storm chaser father, William Brody (Daniel Diemer) seeks to understand his passion. Eventually, the young man runs away to embark on a journey of his own. Along with two other chasers, Brody finds himself in the path of danger. In a battle of wills, mother nature wins every time. Will Brody find the answers he desperately wants, or will he bite off more than he can chew?
This movie stars Skeet Ulrich, Alec Baldwin, Daniel Diemer, Jordan Kristine Seamón and Anne Heche. Herbert James Winterstern directed the movie and co-wrote the script with Anna Elizabeth James.

I wanted to love this movie. Generally speaking, I am a major fan of disaster-themed films. Earthquakes, tornadoes, tsunamis, you name it, I will watch it. Unfortunately, Supercell did not live up to my expectations. I have two primary complaints. My number one fault is that there is not enough action. I was expecting a single, major storm to be the factor that would dictate the rest of the story. Instead, there were several small storm scenes scattered from beginning to end. Also, the real action does not begin until almost halfway through.
My second problem is that I felt like there was no substantial conclusion in the end. Nothing was resolved, new issues arose and I did not get the finality I prefer. Open-ended finales are my least favorite way for any media to go in movies, books and TV shows; I need closure. Instead, I am left with many questions.
In terms of the overall story, I feel there needed to be more. There wasn’t enough to work with to fill out a complete arc. Also, what story there is, focuses entirely on personal drama, which is not my preference. There was no character development. Harper and Roy were the only ones I even found tolerable. I wanted to punch Zane through the screen. Talk about an annoying, unlikeable character. He is a cross between horrendous and forgettable, the worst combination.

The biggest positive for Supercell is the scenery. The storm scenes are incredible, particularly the ones where the viewer sees the cell at a slight distance. I am no expert, but I believe some shots are footage of actual storms. There is one moment that involves large hail up close that is intense.
While I do not regret taking the time to watch this movie, it is not likely that I will undertake the effort again. If you enjoy watching lightning, hail and tornado winds, it is worth viewing once just for those moments. On the one hand, this film is full of intense weather scenes. For those viewers who only want to see that aspect, watch this movie. If you want a deep story or engaging characters, this may not be for you.
Have you seen Supercell yet? If not, it is available to buy or rent on all major digital platforms. Let us know your thoughts in the comments! Before you go, check out the trailer below.
