If there is one studio guaranteed to terrify and frighten, it’s the Bloober Team. Over the years, they have brought us gut-wrenching titles like Layers of Fear, Blair Witch and most recently, The Medium. But it isn’t just about terrifying us. They also think outside the box and bring fun and engaging stories and play styles. And now, with Anshar Studios at their side, they are ready to return to the beginning with their newest title, Layers of Fears. We got our first glimpse at the upcoming psychedelic horror during Summer Game Fest 2022.
If the trailer for Layers of Fears indicates where this story will go – it’s going to be terrifying. While the first two games within this horror franchise focused on a solitary playable character, this new installment will tell the tale across generations. As the trailer opens, we begin to understand that maybe something isn’t quite right with this family, and it is something that crosses from grandparent to parent to grandchild and beyond. The trailer draws connections to Layers of Fear and Layers of Fear 2. There is something ominous going on past the stories we have already been told, and we can’t wait to unravel the mystery.

Bloober Team shared that when they first set out on this journey, they planned to recreate the original games with updated playstyle, graphics and overall horror. But they wanted something more than a remaster. Something that would give longtime fans of the studio and games something new to enjoy but still feel nostalgic. Bloober Team went on to share that Layers of Fears will be the complete way to discover the stories of artists enslaved by their obsessions with expanded plot lines that will cast a new light on the overarching narrative.
Layers of Fear has always had a special place in our hearts and was a unique and terrifying tale to explore. Returning to this world and these stories is something we have been hoping Bloober Team would do, and it looks like our wish has come true. It is set to launch in early 2023 for PC through Steam and the Epic Game Store, PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X.
