James Gunn‘s Suicide Squad sequel hasn’t started filming but the cast alone is enough to make this movie a hit.  Deadline reports that Peter Capaldi of Doctor Who fame is in talks to join the film in an unnamed role.

The sequel will start filming later this month and already has a stellar cast.  Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Viola Davis (Amanda Waller), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang), and Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag) are all returning to their roles from the first Suicide Squad. They are joined by Idris Elba, John Cena, Flula Borg, Nathan Fillion and Taika Waititi in undisclosed roles.  As well as David Dastmalchian as the Polka-Dot Man, Daniela Melchior as Ratcatcher, and Steve Agee as King Shark.

This cast is shaping to up to be one of the most entertaining of all time. Capaldi’s wit and charm make him a good candidate for an awesome villain, like maybe the Riddler.  He definitely has a bit of a Mad Hatter type of vibe. Of course I could be completely wrong, but he would be more entertaining as a villain rather than a hero. I’m really hoping Capaldi interacts with Waititi in the film. Can you imagine the hilarity?

Gunn wrote and will direct the script.  Chuck Roven and Peter Safran are producing with Nik Korda as executive producer.  Deadline also reports that Saturday Night Live’s Pete Davidson is also in talks to join the cast in a cameo role.

Suicide Squad sequel is scheduled for release on August 6, 2021
