Listen, we all agree that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was the Anakin Skywalker of the DC Cinematic Universe — it was supposed to be the chosen one, but it turned to the dark side.
But, just like in Star Wars, there is A New Hope! (see what we did there).
In August, WB’s next big DC film, Suicide Squad, hits theaters and with it’s release comes the possible resurrection of the public’s tainted perception of Warner Bros’s DC Extended Universe. There’s a lot of crossed fingers over at WB as so much is riding on the successful reception of this film.
But, possible rays of hope have emerged from the dark clouds of BvS as early reports of the film are, apparently, positive. So positive, in fact, that there’s already talk of a few spin-off films for some of the Suicide Squad characters. We’ve already heard the news that they are planning that for Harley Quinn, but with this new news, it’s possible we’ll see a Deadshot film, a Katana film or even a Captain Boomerang film.
According to a source with the site WeGotThisCovered.com,
“They’re going to do a sequel for sure, and the recently announced spinoff with Margot Robbie has got everyone excited, too, but their plans don’t end there. The studio is feeling very confident in the property. They think it’s going to be a really big hit and they think audiences are going to fall in love with these characters.
I’ve heard more than a few talks of giving some of the other Task Force X members their own spinoffs, and like the Harley Quinn one, these films would open the door for a ton of new DC characters to show up.
The Joker is a definite possibility for a spinoff, and Jared [Leto] seems up for it from what I’ve been told. They’re also really hot on Jai Courtney’s character Boomerang right now. Nothing’s set in stone yet, but you’re definitely going to be seeing a lot more of these guys in the years to come.”
