Do you remember Stretch Armstrong? He was a gel-filled muscle-man doll that you could pose and stretch out. And now he’s getting an animated series! The cast is filled with many genre actors you’re sure to know and love. So maybe this won’t be so bad.
Netflix has teamed up with Hasbro to bring Stretch Armstrong and the Flex Fighters, an original animated series aimed at kids. According to Netflix, the show “follows high school student Jake Armstrong and his two best friends Nathan Park and Ricardo Perez who are accidentally exposed to an experimental chemical that forever changes their seemingly normal lives, transforming them into unlikely heroes who embark on a series of adventures.” The doll that was introduced in 1976 is getting a fresh coat of superhero paint, it seems.
The voice cast of the series is almost crazy with how much talent is involved. Scott Menville will be playing Jake Armstrong aka Stretch. Steven Yeun will be voicing Nathan Park aka Wingspan. Ogie Banks will be the third best friend in Ricardo Perez aka Omni-Mass. Geek darlings Wil Wheaton and Felicia Day will be voicing Rook and Erika, respectfully. Kane will be voiced by Keith David and Dr. C will be voiced by Kate Mulgrew. And finally, Walter Koening will be voicing Mr. Savic. That’s three Star Trek alum, people!

Do we need yet another superhero show? Not really. But I applaud both Hasbro and Netflix for trying something new with the property – even if it’s something no one asked for. And Netflix seems to be really cashing in on the nostalgia by bringing back programs like Bill Nye and Carmen Sandiego. Admittedly, I am a bit sad it’s not a muscle man in black undies. But I digress.
What do you think of the concept? Are you on board or will you pass? Did you ever cut open Stretch Armstrong’s arm to watch the gel ooze out? Let us know! Stretch Armstrong and the Flex Fighters begins streaming it’s 26 episodes in late 2017. So keep your eyes peeled! Be sure to come back to Geek Girl Authority for more streaming news.
