STRANGER THINGS Shows Off Darker Side With First 8 Minutes of Season 4

We are a week away from the release of Stranger Things fourth season on Netflix. Tensions are high as we head back to Hawkins, Indiana, and gear up to face one of Matt and Ross Duffer‘s greatest threats. Through teaser images and trailers, we have been introduced to Vecna and the new cast coming to the series. But today, we were gifted the first eight minutes of the premiere, and it’s loaded.

The Stranger Things clip opens with a young boy delivering papers to a neighborhood. It’s eerily calm. One of the homeowners comes out and picks up the paper before beginning their morning tasks. Complete the crossword, make tea, shave and pick out an outfit. We get little glimpses, but it isn’t until they look into the mirror that we realize that we have been watching Dr. Brenner (Matthew Modine), aka Papa. It seems that he isn’t dead after all.

But showing off that he is still alive isn’t enough. We then get a flashback to the Hawkins Lab, where Brenner works with one of El’s (Millie Bobby Brown) siblings. Things grow dark as we heard screaming and slamming. Who or what is attacking them? Brenner is knocked out briefly and when he awakes, the carnage is already done. Everyone in the lab is dead. Except for El, who is standing, covered in blood, in the Rainbow Room. What did she do? How did she do it? We are left with questions after the scene comes to an end.

Stranger Things has a way of keeping us on the edge of our seats. And this is one of those moments. We also learned that Volume 1 will include episodes one through seven, with Volume 2 featuring the final two. Something that has had us really thinking after this clip aired is that episode seven is titled “Chapter Seven: The Massacre at Hawkins Lab.” This means that this little prequel isn’t going to be touched upon again until we hit the final episode of Volume 1. But what does this mean for El? And how does it play into the rest of the season?

Stranger Things Volume 1 for season four will drop on Netflix starting May 27, 2022. Check out the full clip below! What are your theories on what happened at the Hawkins Lab?
