With the release of the highly anticipated Stranger Things season 3 steadily approaching, dedicated fans have marked their calendars as a plethora of cool merchandise has dropped. They’ve gone merch mad and my wallet is now empty because I have no self control. Dungeons & Dragons set, a tubular Lego set, shoes and apparel. There’s even a Stranger Things inspired ice cream flavor at Baskin-Robbins! It’s a lot. And if all that wasn’t enough, Netflix announced earlier this week that Finnish studio Next Games is developing a Stranger Things mobile game!

Are you ready to do your part and battle the emerging evils of The Upside Down? Then this game is for you! Apparently this will please Pokemon Go fans. According to the Next Games press release, the game “…will reimagine the Stranger Things universe in the style of an 80’s Saturday morning cartoon. Through location-based mechanics and Google Maps integration, players can explore The Upside Down hidden around them in their daily travels and work with fellow fans to fight back its emerging evils.”

What I’m gathering from this is that your phone will act as a seeing stone of sorts. You can see and even fight whatever monster you encounter while remaining in the safety of your own realm. I’m so pumped for this. Alas, 2020 is still a long ways away. At least we’ll have the actual show to hold us over in the meantime though, right? Hopefully it’s worth the wait.

Season 3 of Stranger Things drops on Netflix on July 4, 2019. See you in The Upside Down.

A bona fide earthling who finds some comfort in books, movies and coffee. Lots of coffee. Has several regrettable tattoos and her knowledge of horror movies is probably better than yours but she won't hold it against you; it's proof that she has way too much free time. Currently in limbo but manages to occasionally crawl out of it long enough to write for Geek Girl Authority.
