Steven Spielberg is joining the comic book world, everyone. THR reports that the legendary director will be joining DC Comics in bringing the character Blackhawk to the big screen. The action-adventure war hero was popular in his early run and has made multiple appearances throughout DC Comics media since their obtaining the character. So just who is Blackhawk and what will the film be about?
Blackhawk debuted in Military Comics #1 on August 1941 under Quality Comics. The eponymous character led a team of ace pilots during World War II who were later known as the Blackhawks. The series was so popular that it out-sold most comic books in the 1940s (except Superman). At the end of the 1950s, Quality was sold to DC Comics and the characters have gone under a few changes over the years, including introducing a Lady Blackhawk as a leader of the team. Their appearance is still ongoing in comics sold on today’s shelves!

Spielberg on the other hand is a near perfect fit for bringing these characters to life. With all the action-adventure films under his belt and hasn’t completely shied away from military films, this is a cake walk for him. After coming off the huge success and heavily CGI’d Ready Player One, this seems like a great character and setting to tackle next. Spielberg will be only producing the film under his Amblin Entertainment company with David Koepp writing the script. But he also wants to direct so hopefully they let him cause it would be a mistake not to.
Fingers crossed he includes both Blackhawk and Lady Blackhawk in the film! What do you think of Spielberg taking on the comic world? Are you excited? Let us know! Be sure to come back to Geek Girl Authority for more DC news. The untitled Blackhawk film does not currently have a release date.
