SO MUCH JUSTICE LEAGUE NEWS TODAY!

Warner Bros. opened up their doors to a few comic book news sites and, basically, just spilled their guts on everything. Among those sites was Comicbook.com, who gave us this particular bit of news.

The super duper big bad in the upcoming DC film, Justice League, will be none other than Steppenwolf! If you saw the deleted scenes from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, you saw Steppenwolf when the military agents descended into the the downed Kryptonian ship to arrest/rescue  Lex Luthor. It’s unclear what exactly he was doing, but it involved three Mother Boxes.

In fact, we’ve also got news that the Justice League film will partially involve tracking down those Mother Boxes, which have disappeared to somewhere on Earth, Atlantis and Themyscira. As Producer Charles Roven told reporters on their set visit,

“Back before history, mankind, the Atlanteans, before they were underwater, the Amazons, and actually the old gods, teamed together and decided that, based on an event that happened, these Mother Boxes were going to be placed in the care of as I said, the Amazons, mankind, and the Atlanteans. So that allowed us to get into some of those environments in our story.” He also added that “these Mother Boxes are best used and work in threes.”

And just what are Mother Boxes? They are super computers developed by the New Gods that are so advanced they appear to be more magic than science. They can work as teleportation devices summoning Boom Tubes, which is what they are usually seen to do for Darkseid, though we’ve also seen them heal people, as with Ray Fisher in Dawn of Justice, who becomes Cyborg.

So who is Steppenwolf? He is the uncle to Darkseid, the DC equivalent to Marvel’s Thanos, and is the strategic military genius behind the Parademon army that has given Darkseid his cosmic empire. He’s a ruthless, powerful general who’s rarely defeated and always resurrected.

All that being said, the Justice League will have their hands full come November of next year.

Oh yeah, and among all the other news coming out we’ve also got a brand new synopsis for the film! You can read it below —

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.
