Stephen Colbert is a huge nerd. It’s part of the reason why we love him. Whether it’s Star Wars, Dungeons and Dragons or Lord of the Rings, the talk show host knows his stuff. So, when he aired an interview on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert where he chats with Peter Jackson in New Zealand, we were filled with giddiness and anticipation that the piece would turn into a ridiculous sketch. We were not disappointed.

In the sketch, Colbert reminds Jackson about his cameo in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. He then pitches an idea for a new film in the franchise where reprises that role. That character would be “Darrylgorn,” Aragorn’s more handsome brother. Jackson’s not sure about this but Colbert has already filmed a trailer for him to watch. It’s called, Stephen Colbert presents Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings series’ The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’s “The Laketown Spy” is Darrylgorn in Darrylgorn Rising: The Rise of Darrylgorn The Prequel to Part One: Chapter One.

We then see Colbert’s Darrylgorn traveling through Middle-Earth. For some hilarious reason he has one elf ear. The sketch weaves in actual footage from the films and has Peter Jackson making his own cameo. Colbert manages to get a few more cameos in the sketch as well.
