The CW announced today that Stephen Amell is returning as Oliver Queen, aka the Green Arrow for the final season of The Flash. Amell will appear in episode 909, the same episode that will feature the return of Kid Flash (Keiynan Lonsdale), John Diggle (David Ramsey) and Bloodwork (Sendhil Ramamurthy). It appears that episode 909 is turning out to be the last Arrowverse crossover.
Executive Producer Eric Wallace had this to say about this exciting return. “As soon as our final season was announced, we knew we wanted Stephen to come back and reprise his iconic role as Oliver Queen. After all, it was Oliver who originally launched Barry Allen (played by Grant Gustin) on his heroic path. That’s why everyone on Team Flash felt so strongly that it was important to create a full-circle moment with Oliver’s return in the final season of The Flash. The result is an epic-yet-emotional episode we hope Arrowverse fans will enjoy. It’s all to say “thank you” to everyone for watching and supporting our show throughout nine wonderful years. We absolutely cannot wait for everyone to see Grant and Stephen saving the world together again. And yes, there will be thrills, chills and tears.”

This announcement is no surprise considering Amell tweeted about his return yesterday. In the tweet, Amell wrote, “of course I’m coming back,” with a gif of Oliver and Barry hugging. Despite Oliver’s death in Crisis on Infinite Earths, we knew the door was always open for his return. We will have to wait to see just how Oliver returns and who else is returning with him.
The final season will comprise of 13 episodes. The series began in 2014 and is the last standing Arrowverse series. It’s only fitting that they give everyone a chance to say goodbye to the franchise. I’m still waiting to hear if Carlos Valdes and Tom Cavanagh will return. It would be great to see Supergirl‘s Melissa Benoist, Legends of Tomorrow‘s Caity Lotz, Brandon Routh, and Wentworth Miller again. And of course, the CW needs to give Batwoman a proper send off. We’ll see what happens.
The Flash final season starts Wednesday, February 8 on The CW.
