Stellan Skarsgård and Kyle Soller are in final negotiations to join the cast of the Rogue One spin-off series. The Star Wars series will stream on Disney +. Variety was the first to report the news, but Disney has not confirmed.
The untitled series will focus on Cassian Andor, played by Diego Luna, prior to the events of Rogue One. Alan Tudyk will also return to voice K-2SO. Rogue One writer Tony Gilroy wrote the pilot and will be on hand to direct multiple episodes. The show will focus on the early days of the Rebellion, before the events of Rogue One. The untitled series is described as being a “spy thriller.”
This is the third Star Wars series in development for streaming. Current series in the works are The Mandalorian season 2 and the Obi Wan-Kenobi series starring Ewan McGregor. Variety reported recently that Joby Harold took over the writing duties for the Obi Wan series.
There are no details about the characters Skarsgård and Soller would be playing. Skarsgård just complete work on the first Dune film. Soller was recently seen in the HBO movie Brexit.
For now, production is on hold. The Rogue One spin-off series should premiere in 2021.
