Simon Kinberg in a Galaxy Far, Far Away
Simon Kinberg is returning to a galaxy far, far away. The Star Wars: Rebels co-creator and executive producer will develop a new Star Wars trilogy for Lucasfilm. Kinberg is poised to write and produce said trilogy. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy is also on board as a producer.
In addition to Rebels, which ran from 2014 to 2018, Kinberg has quite the resume. He’s behind Apple TV+’s Invasion, X-Men: Dark Phoenix, X-Men: Apocalypse, X-Men: Days of Future Past and 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand. His other credits include 2005’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith (which inspired Prime Video’s 2024 series of the same name), The 355, Apple TV+’s Sugar starring Colin Farrell and box office smash hit Deadpool & Wolverine.

What’s Next for Star Wars
Not much is known about this new trilogy. Deadline believes the trio of films will continue The Skywalker Saga, which would be episodes 10-12. However, they could also mark the beginning of a new saga in the franchise.
As for other projects on deck for Lucasfilm and Disney, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, a new series starring Jude Law, will hit Disney+ on December 3. Andor Season 2 will arrive in 2025. Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni’s The Mandalorian and Grogu feature will soar into theaters on May 22, 2026.
James Mangold will also helm an untitled flick about the dawn of the Jedi. Another untitled project with Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy will see the return of Daisy Ridley as Jedi Master Rey Skywalker.

Additionally, Donald Glover is developing a Lando Calrissian movie. Glover played a younger version of the character in the 2018 Ron Howard-directed film Solo: A Star Wars Story. Lastly, Taika Waititi’s untitled feature seems stuck in development purgatory.
