Holy guacamole we have some big casting news from The Mandalorian! According to EW, we’re getting not one but three big name actors joining the Star Wars universe. It’s casting news that I don’t think anyone saw coming but it’s a pleasant surprise. Welcome Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), Carl Weathers (Rocky, Predator) and director Werner Herzog!
In addition to the big casting news, the full cast list includes Omid Abtahi (American Gods) and Emily Swallow (Supernatural) joining Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano and Nick Nolte. Now unfortunately with all of this casting news, we have no idea what kind of characters they’ll be playing. No character names, no descriptions, nothing! The information about the series is being locked up really tight!

We did get a bit of a consolation prize, however. Executive producer and writer Jon Favreau shared a brief statement. “We’re having a great time working with this incredibly talented group and excited for everyone to see what we’re up to.” You’re right, Jon, we’re definitely curious to see what you all have been up to. Just who are all of these people are playing? I mean really. Werner Herzog has a role in the show? I’m excited albeit so confused.
If you’ve read Star Wars casting news from me, typically I have some sort of speculation. Whether it’s a type of role they’ll be playing or maybe even character traits. But this time, there’s really too much casting for me to even wrap my head around it! It’s crazy! But I did want to say I’m disappointed by the lack of women in the casting. Two women for the six men? Come on, Favreau, you can do better.
