The Clone War’s “Unfinished Business”
This The Clone Wars episode starts with a recap of where we’re at right now. After discovering Echo’s signal coming from a Separatist base, Captain Rex and Commander Cody take a unique team, Clone Force 99, to the Skako Minor. On this planet they take on the army of the Techno Union in an attempt to free Echo. They succeed but not without inciting a major battle between the native Poletecs and the Techno Union which results in victory for our heroes. With Echo safely back with his brothers, it’s time to get back to Anaxes and save the Republic fleet.
Back on Anaxes, Mace Windu, Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Captain Rex resume their plan to defend Anaxes. Now that the Techno Union can no longer anticipate their moves, there is some optimism about their chances of reclaiming the assembly plant. Echo arrives to share his plan to retake the facility.
The plan is simple: get Echo on the Dreadnought orbiting Anaxes where then he can interface with their computer and issues commands just as he did on Skako Minor. By manipulating the outcome of the Techno Union response, the Republic can counterattack effectively. If the Bad Batch can get Echo on the Dreadnought, then victory is almost certainly assured.
A Question of Loyalty
Everyone agrees to the plan, but not everyone trusts Echo’s intentions. Tech speaks to Captain Rex about his major concern that Echo spent a time with the Separatists and he aided them in their fight. There is no telling if Echo is truly loyal to the Republic or if he still has a lingering loyalty to the Separatists. Rex stands firm on where Echo’s loyalties lie.
Making their way to the Dreadnought Echo connects with the ship’s systems in an attempt to fool the Dreadnought into letting their ship in. Now that he is augmented with tech, he can fully interface with the computers, much like any droid. Echo is successful and they fly in without any problems.
Back on Anaxes, Mace Windu and his army begin their assault on the assembly plant. Taking out the droids effortlessly, it looks like the Republic’s plan is working, but Trench has a little surprise for them.

On the Dreadnought Anakin, Echo and the Bad Batch sneak their way through the ship. Getting Echo to a comm vault, Tech helps Echo interface with the system. Trench, relishing in the battle, issues a request to Skako Minor for a counterattack plan. At that moment, Echo connects to the interface and sees the request and tries to respond to it. Tech quickly stops him and tells him that the signal coming from Echo needs to look like its coming from Skako Minor.
On Anaxes, Mace Windu and Ob-Wan Kenobi arrive at the heart of the assembly plant. Mace, being Mace, stands before the droids in the plant and gives them an ultimatum: lay down their weapons and allow themselves to be repurposed for the greater good or they will be destroyed. The droids refuse and the battle ensues.
Subterfuge
Trench receives the counterattack plan from “Skako Minor” (aka Echo) and orders all the droids to descend on the assembly plant. Believing that the Republic won’t send any reinforcements, Trench is overly confident that they will soon win this fight. The news is a surprise to the Bad Batch, Captain Rex, and Anakin, but Echo assures them that this is all part of his plan. If he can get all the droids to the assembly plant, he can disable them in one shot. The plan sounds risky because it places Mace’s and Obi-Wan’s forces in obvious danger, but they have no choice but to trust Echo.
Anakin sends a message to Mace to let him know that they will be seeing the entire droid army at the plant. At the same time Trench watches the battle from the control center, convinced that the Jedi are going to be defeated.
In the center of the plant Mace and Obi-Wan take down the remaining droids. Obi-Wan feels that it was an easy battle, but his small victory is short lived as the rest of the droid army enters the plant. “Does this meet your expectations?” Mace asks him. “This exceeds my expectations,” Obi-Wan responds.
Back on the Dreadnought, Echo sends out an energy surge that overloads all the droids, just as he planned. As the droids drop one by one, Trench is completely baffled by what he’s seeing.
“A Wise Leader”
Mace lets Anakin know the good news and they congratulate Echo on a job well done. Echo’s work proves to the team that his loyalties lie with the Republic. Trench learns that the signal came from his Dreadnought but doesn’t seem too concerned by their defeat because he had set up a contingency plan in case things went sideways. Echo intercepts Trench’s next order and learns that Trench has placed a bomb in the assembly plant and it’s so powerful that it can destroy half of Anaxes.
Tech contacts Mace and warns him about the bomb. As Mace goes down to the fusion reactor to disarm the it, Anakin goes to confront Trench.
Down in the reactor, Mace locates the rather sizable bomb located at the base. Unfortunately, it’s protected by a ray shield. Echo accesses the code to shut down the shield. As he relays the numbers to Mace, Mace uses the Force to control the switches. Things seem to be going well until the droids locate Echo. Jamming the signal, the droids overload both the server and Echo’s neural system. Trench now knows their location.
Saving Anaxes
Mace orders the strike team to escape while he deals with the bomb. As Trench celebrates his victory, Anakin enters his control room. Anakin takes out his droids, leaving him and Trench to have a little chat. Trench refuses to give the last sequence in the code and doesn’t believe that Anakin will do anything to harm him, “You’re a Jedi…” But Anakin interrupts him by severing four of eight his arms and claiming that he doesn’t have such Jedi weaknesses (it’s a bit of a Dark Side dip). The act is enough to get Trench to give Anakin and Mace the final code in the sequence to disarm the bomb.
Trench tries one more desperate act to take Anakin down, but Anakin stabs him through the heart dispatching Trench quickly. Anakin finds a small gift for Wrecker and runs to meet with them.
In a corridor of the Dreadnought the team is outnumbered but Wrecker takes the lead, meeting the droids head on and tackling them like a defensive lineman. Anakin returns and as the team waits for Crosshair, they encounter more droids. Crosshair appears, and we see that he’s been throwing little sticky discs all along the coordinator. With one perfectly aimed shot, the gun bolt ricochets along the discs, successfully taking out the remaining droid forces in style.
Ass the team escapes the Dreadnought, Anakin gives Wrecker his present: a denotator that will destroy the Dreadnaught. An emotional Wrecker accepts the gift, claiming that it is the happiest day of his life. Pressing the button, the Dreadnought and the two ships in close proximity are destroyed.

Echo Finds His Place
Back on Anaxes, Mace congratulates Clone Force 99, Captain Rex, and Corporal Echo. As Rex and Echo are about to receive their commendations, Echo is surprised that Hunter, Tech, Wrecker, and Crosshair are not following them. Explaining that accolades aren’t their thing, Hunter tries to recruit Echo to the Clone Force 99. Echo considers it for a moment but decides against it. It’s not until Rex talks to him about where his place should be now, does Echo realize that his place is with the Bad Batch.
Rex, sad to see his brother go, turns back to look at his good friend as he joins the ranks of Clone Force 99. In an act of solidarity, all five members turn to Rex and offer a touching, parting salute.
Overall, this was another fantastic The Clone Wars episode. I admit that I was a little skeptical about Echo’s return based on the ending of the last episode, but I should have trusted Eco to do what is right. It was good to see Clone Force 99 accept Echo as one of their own.
There were some great lighthearted moments in this episode that I enjoyed. Mace Windu standing before the droids was very Mace Windu-y. Letting Wrecker destroy the Dreadnought was perfect. The Obi-wanisms in this episode were top notch.
I am a bit concerned about Anakin, however. In this episode, we see a little bit of a darker Anakin. Especially when he claims that he doesn’t have any of the Jedi weaknesses. I know where this season will end, but I’m just not ready to see Anakin go Dark Side just yet.
The absence of Clone Force 99 will be felt in the next episode. In the last 4 episodes these super clones have made fans out of all of us and I hope that we will see them in future episodes.
Next week, The Clone Wars season 7 episode 5, “Gone With a Trace” will be released and it looks like we might see the return of Ahsoka Tano!
