The Goonies Meets Star Wars

Would you accept the siren song of adventure if it led you to strange new worlds? (Sorry, wrong franchise.) Disney unveiled the official trailer and new key art for the next chapter in the Star Wars franchise, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. Folks, based on said trailer, we’re in for a delightful The Goonies-style story.

Here’s a brief synopsis per Disney:

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew follows the journey of four kids who make a mysterious discovery on their seemingly safe home planet, then get lost in a strange and dangerous galaxy. Finding their way home—and meeting unlikely allies and enemies—will be a greater adventure than they ever imagined.”

I’m excited to watch something that simply looks fun. I love the Goonies vibes in this trailer; it makes it feel inherently ’80s. This also feels like a break from the typical narrative formula for this franchise.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew premieres its first two episodes on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, only on Disney+. Before you go, check out the new key art and official trailer below.
