Despite what you may remember, the upcoming live action series featuring Obi-Wan Kenobi is still in production! Yes, thankfully the Disney Plus series is still in the works with pre-production currently rolling along. We know this to be true thanks to a new working title that came up on Production Weekly.
Right now, the series is going under the name “Pilgrim”, which is very likely to be in relation to how Kenobi spent his life in exile. By definition, pilgrim means a ‘person who journeys to a sacred place for religious reasons’. With that being said, it gives the impression that he will likely stay on Tatooine, potentially finding relics tied to The Force. Maybe there’s a hidden Jedi Temple somewhere in the endless sands that he’ll come across. That could be an interesting take on the story, instead of just a “bad guy of the week” series.
As mentioned, the production of the show has been through hell. Showrunners have come and gone, production has started and stopped multiple times. The latest update we had was a rumor that the show had been put on hold indefinitely. Luckily, star Ewan McGregor cleared the rumors up. “We start shooting at the very beginning of next year, they’re in pre-production from this summer, there are scripts that I’ve read that are really good, they’re continuing to write on them to make them even better, and we start very early next year,” he told GMA.
We’re just glad the show is still in the works! What do you think of the news? Are you looking forward to the new Kenobi series? Let us know! Be sure to come back to Geek Girl Authority for more Star Wars news.
