Star Wars Celebration news is off to a great start! Today they announced Star Wars: Forces of Destiny, an animated feature containing shorts of some of our favorite heroines. Rey, Leia, Jyn, Ahsoka, Maz and Sabine have all been slated to appear in the micro series. It is unclear if Padme made the cut at this time.
The series will start in July, launching 2-3 minute animated shorts on the Disney YouTube channel. Then in the fall, a two-part TV will feature 8 more shorts on the Disney channel. The best news? They got some of the cast to come in and record. Daisy Ridley will be back as Rey. Felicity Jones will be back as Jyn Erso. Lupita Nyong’o will be back as Maz. And of course fan favorite Ashley Eckstein will be back as Ahsoka.
Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy spoke highly of the series. “Star Wars Forces of Destiny is for anyone who has been inspired by Leia’s heroism, Rey’s courage, or Ahsoka’s tenacity. We’re thrilled that so many of the original actors are reprising their roles in these shorts which capture the small moments and everyday decisions that shape who these characters are. It is a fun new way for people to experience Star Wars.”

In addition to shorts, they will also be launching a toy line! Because it’s not Star Wars if there’s not toys. “Hasbro is set to launch a line of Star Wars Forces of Destiny toys, including new “Adventure Figures” — a fusion of traditional dolls and action figures.” They are a little scary looking but a brilliant idea. In addition to action figures, they’ll also be releasing roleplay items and accessories like Rey’s staff. They are very confident about this series as they will ALSO be releasing bedding, apparel, books and more! Check out the original article for a preview. Bonus tidbit – this also explains why the website was secured last year. Fans who found the site had speculated it could possibly be the title of Episode VIII. Now we know what it’s for!
