Variety reported that Doctor Who alum Matt Smith is joining the cast of Star Wars: Episode XI, in a “key role.” The film is currently in production in the UK. Smith made quite a name for himself as the 11th Doctor, fez and all in the Doctor Who series from 2010-2013. Recently he played Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh in the Netflix hit series, The Crown which earned him an Emmy nomination.

Smith is just the latest of newcomers to the Star Wars Saga. Keri Russell, Richard E. Grant, Naomi Ackie and Dominic Monaghan were just added to the cast in the last couple of weeks. J. J. Abrams is directing the film with returning original cast that includes Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels and Billy Dee Williams. The film will include Carrie Fisher, using footage from previous movies. Fisher passed away in 2016.
