Announced today on StarWars.com, we have some brand new faces coming to the galaxy far, far away. In fact, we learned of the entire cast of Star Wars: Episode IX in the announcement. (Well, hopefully not the entire cast). Some old friends and some new friends will be joining Rey and Finn on their final cinematic adventure.

We learned that the returning cast consists of Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, Anthony Daniels and Billie Lourd. Luke Skywalker himself Mark Hamill will be returning as well as the late Carrie Fisher. Happily, another original trilogy member is making a return to the screen. The original Lando, Billy Dee Williams, makes his triumphant return to the franchise after being left out of the previous two.

So who are our new faces? Well, say hello to Naomi Ackie, Richard E. Grant and Keri Russell! Ackie is a relative newcomer, best known for her secondary role in the 2016 film Lady MacBeth. Grant is best known for his roles in Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Logan, and Game of Thrones. And unfortunately, we have no idea what their roles will be. But if you know my work then you know what time it is. Speculation hat time! Put them on as we speculate just who they’re playing. Admittedly, I think both of them are with The First Order. I’m not quite sure why, but it’s just a feeling I have. If I were to do some fan-casting, I would guess that Ackie is playing former Vice Admiral of the Galactic Empire Rae Sloane. Mostly because I want to see her in a live action film. But given that Ackie’s in her late 20s, it seems less likely. And Grant just has the face of a bad guy (sorry, Richard!). Russell was not originally in the announcement on the website but was included in the Star Wars Show update and later fixed on the site.

But before I bore you with what ifs and maybes, I think we should bask in the fact that we have a new Star Wars film coming. Regardless of your opinion on the previous, we’re getting more Star Wars. And that’s something to celebrate. And major welcomes to the new faces of the galaxy far, far away! But it’s now your turn to speculate – as we fans are one to do. So tell us what you think of the casting. What do you think of the returning characters? Are you looking forward to the new casting? Who else would you like to see join the franchise? Let us know!

Be sure to come back to Geek Girl Authority for more Star Wars news. Star Wars: Episode IX flies into theaters December 20th, 2019 and begins shooting next week.
