Well, well! We have some casting news thanks to Variety. According to the site, Keri Russell has been cast for a role in Star Wars: Episode IX. Oh heck yes! Russell just recently finished up her incredible work on The Americans so she’s open!
Apparently, Lucasfilm has been seeing actresses for the role for the past few months but settled on Russell before July 4th. We don’t know anything about her role nor which side she’ll be on in the currently chase between the Resistance and The First Order. Though we learned that the role calls for it to be action-heavy, and we know Russell is up to the task! She has some stunt heavy work experience from The Americans, Mission Impossible and more. But other than that, we don’t know what her role will be or if she’ll be humanoid.

As excited as I am for more female roles in Star Wars, I will admit I’m a bit disappointed it’s not a woman of color. I still want to see more diversity in the cast. However, I can’t help but be excited for an action-packed role for an older woman. Not everyone in the galaxy is a young twenty something! Can’t wait to learn more about her character and more casting news in the coming weeks of production. Why must we wait over a year?
