It’s been a while since we’ve had some news regarding the Cassian Andor series set to debut on Disney+. That changes today as Variety reports that Tony Gilroy, who co-wrote Rogue One, will be joining the series and returning to the characters he helped create. Welcome back, Mr. Gilroy!
According to the report, Gilroy is set to write the pilot episode of the show featuring the returning Diego Luna as Andor and Alan Tudyk as K2SO. He’ll also be on hand to direct multiple episodes as well. Gilroy joins showrunner Stephen Schiff in bringing this series to life.
The show is said to be focused on the early days of the Rebellion, before the events of Rogue One. The untitled series was described as being a “spy thriller” when it was first introduced to fans last year.
I’m excited for this! It was rumored that Gilroy was the director of the reshoots for the film that tightened up the story. Not only that but the stories and fun that can come from seeing the early days of the Rebellion. Especially the dirty things they had to do in order to get victories and fight again the Empire. There’s so much potential. If I’m being honest, I’m also excited to see Luna and Tudyk return. Their relationship was some of the best parts of the film. Now here’s hoping Donnie Yen can make a cameo as Chirrut Imwe!
