We know much more about the goings-on of certain characters than others. Here are the details we know about what the bridge crew of the Enterprise-D and Enterprise-E have been up to in the years since Star Trek: Nemesis. This article includes spoilers for the first and second seasons of Picard, as well for all three seasons of Star Trek: Lower Decks.

Jean-Luc Picard season 3

The character we know the most about is Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart). In the season finale of Lower Decks season 3, we learn that as of 2380, he provides clandestine funding to the Independent Archeologist’s Guild.

The first season of Picard is set 19 years later. When Picard first appears in this season, he is living a somewhat reclusive life at his family vineyard on Earth. At this point, Picard has resigned from Starfleet in protest over the treatment of Romulan refugees. Among his closest friends is Laris (Orla Brady), a Romulan who lives and works at Chateau Picard. Before leaving Earth, Picard is diagnosed with a terminal illness.

A key point from Picard season 1 is a ban on synthetic life in the Federation. This would have included Picard’s late friend and ally, Data (Brent Spiner). Over the course of the season, Picard meets Data’s “daughter,” Soji (Isa Briones). He also meets Alton Inigo Soong (Spiner), the son of Data’s creator. At the climax of the season, Picard dies due to his illness. However, his consciousness is transferred to an identical (sans illness) positronic golem by Soong. After these events, Picard instructs Soong to delete the remainder of Data’s programming.

Picard and Q’s Excellent Adventure

In Picard season 2, Picard goes on a time-traveling adventure thanks to the machinations of Q (John de Lancie). While this initially seems antagonistic, it is ultimately revealed to be Q’s final gift of healing to his life’s closest friend. Thanks to Q, Picard gains personal peace with his childhood, including the suicide of his mother and his complicated relationship with his father.

Throughout this season, Picard works alongside another TNG alum: Guinan, played by Whoopi Goldberg in 2401 and Ito Aghayere in 2024.

The actions of Picard and his crew in the past also lead to the apotheosis of a new Borg Queen. This entity is the result of the bonding of Doctor Agnes Jurati (Allison Pill) and a Borg Queen originating in a dark parallel timeline (Annie Wersching). When Q returns Picard and (most of) his crew to 2401, this new Borg Queen becomes the gatekeeper for a tear in spacetime in the heart of Federation space.

At the conclusion of this season, Picard returns to Earth. There, he kindles a long-simmering romance with Laris.

William T. Riker and Deanna Troi

Aside from Picard, the characters whose fates we know the most about are William T. Riker (Jonathan Frakes) and Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis).

In the season finale of Lower Decks season 1, “No Small Parts,” the Titan rescues the Cerritos from a Pakled attack. Both Riker and Troi are present on the bridge of the Luna class Titan during this exciting sequence. Furthermore, Riker and the Titan appear or are mentioned multiple additional times over the course of the next two seasons of Lower Decks.

Roughly two decades later, both Riker and Troi appear in Picard season 1. In these appearances, it is revealed that the couple had a son, Thad, born aboard a starship. He died due to the unavailability of a medical procedure outlawed by the synthetic ban. Riker, Troi, and their surviving child Kestra (LuLu Wilson) have retired to the remote world of Nepthene.

Riker subsequently leads a Starfleet armada to the rescue in the climactic moments of Picard season 1’s finale, “Et in Arcadia Ego, Part 2.”

Worf, Geordi LaForge, and Doctor Beverly Crusher

Very little is known about the fates of the remaining three TNG bridge crew members after the events of Nemesis.

According to dialogue from Ensign Beckett Mariner (Tawny Newsome), while serving on Deep Space Nine, she broke a Mek’leth belonging to Worf (Michael Dorn). However, she fixed it before he discovered it had been broken. Note that this anecdote may be a fabrication. One thing is for certain about Worf. In preview images, it has been revealed that he now sports all-white hair.

A piece of intriguing information about Geordi La Forge (LeVar Burton) was revealed during New York Comic Con 2022. This is the revelation La Forge has two daughters who will appear in Picard season 3. They will be played by Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut and Mica Burton, the latter of whom is Burton’s real-life daughter.

Finally, we don’t know what Doctor Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden) has been up to in the intervening years. However, the most recent trailer for Picard season 3 has revealed that she is being assisted in her work by a character played by Ed Speleers. If you’re curious about what happened to Beverly’s son Wesley Crusher (Wil Wheaton), see the Picard season 2 finale, “Farewell“!
