We know what happens when Star Trek: Strange New Worlds crosses over with the animated Star Trek: Lower Decks. But what if … Strange New Worlds crossed over with a different cartoon?
In an inventive and hilarious mashup, Paramount+ invites you to beam aboard the Patrick Starship Enterprise. The new ad features the Enterprise crew making first contact with characters from SpongeBob SquarePants. And you can watch the advert for Paramount+ yourself.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds x SpongeBob SquarePants
The advertisement reimagines the U.S.S. Enterprise as the Patrick Starship Enterprise. However, in this incarnation, it looks like a giant version of SpongeBob‘s Patrick Star (Bill Fagerbakke). Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) crews the vessel, which features expected crew members Nyota Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding) and Spock (Ethan Peck).

These characters are joined by several SpongeBob characters, rendered in 3D to appear alongside the live-action Starfleet officers. They are Sandy Cheeks (Carolyn Lawrence) and Mr. Krabs (Clancy Brown).
The advertisement mashes together many elements from both shows into a strange, new gumbo. For one thing, the characters appear on the Enterprise bridge, which contains many SpongeBob elements. The viewscreen shows a starfield filled with the flowers that appear in the underwater backgrounds of SpongeBob.

Plus, Pike uses a shell phone to order the commencement of “nautical nonsense,” and Uhura flips a few Krabby Patties. And in the advert’s climax, SpongeBob SquarePants (Tom Kenny) himself beams aboard the ship. However, Spock addresses him as “SpongeRobert.”
In the final moments of the commercial, it is revealed to be Uhura’s dream. But Spock suggests that it might have been Uhura’s “imagination,” recreating the popular SpongeBob meme. And the cherry on top? The ad’s outro sounds like it was narrated by Bradward Boimler himself, Jack Quaid.
Currently, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and SpongeBob SquarePants are available for streaming on Paramount+.
