After an initial teaser trailer for the upcoming series Star Trek: Strange New Worlds was released three weeks ago, a follow-up teaser has now been posted to Twitter by the Star Trek on Paramount Plus account. This teaser centers on the arrival on the bridge of Cadet Nyota Uhura, played by Celia Rose Gooding, and heavily foreshadows the integral role she will play in the overarching narrative of Star Trek.

Uhura’s Legendary Legacy

Uhura has been a part of Star Trek’s story since the very beginning, having appeared on the bridge of the Enterprise on Star Trek: The Original Series. On that show, Nichelle Nichols originated the role of communications officer Uhura. Nichols reprised the character for Star Trek: The Animated Series and six big-screen appearances. Zoe Saldana plays an alternate version in the Kelvin timeline movies.

The character is one of several legacy characters who will be played by new actors in the show, including Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount), Number One (Rebecca Romijn) and Spock (Ethan Peck), all three of which previously made their debuts in their respective roles in the second season of Star Trek: Discovery, from which SNW spins off.

Over the course of the thirty-second trailer, we see Uhura interacting with Pike and Spock and revealing the fact that she speaks thirty-seven languages. The teaser also operates with a degree of dramatic irony, concluding with a shot of Uhura looking over at the Enterprise’s communication console under a voiceover of the character saying, “Who knows where I’ll end up? I guess I’m still searching.”

In addition to revealing more of Gooding’s interpretation of Uhura, the new teaser also includes additional shots of the Enterprise, her bridge, some of the eponymous unexplored worlds, and a look at Spock’s fresh sideburns. Which parts of the upcoming series are you most excited to see, and do they include this incredible new batch of Starfleet uniforms? We’ve shared the new teaser below to help you get more excited!

Strange New Worlds will premiere on Paramount Plus on May 5th, 2022.
