Much like our own universe, the Star Trek Universe is ever-expanding. The upcoming slate of Star Trek shows was represented at TCA’s yesterday. Alex Kurtzman, the captain of the Star Trek Universe ship, said in reference to new shows, “We have to think several years out. We’re thinking about knowing we’ll want new shows on the air two or three years from now so we have to start planning those now. There’s a bunch of things in development now that are starting to take shape and we’re super excited about it.”
We know that one series in development is Section 31 which will star Michelle Yeoh. It’s been in development for quite some time. Now, Deadline reports, to the surprise of not one Trek fan, that the next series in the works is Starfleet Academy.

There’s been talk about a Star Trek: Starfleet Academy show for a while now. Think of the Academy as a university for those that want a career in service to Starfleet and the Federation. A milder West Point. What will be interesting to find out is when and where this Starfleet Academy will take place.
Trek fans are familiar with Starfleet Academy’s main campus in San Francisco. However, in Star Trek: Discovery, a new academy has formed far in the future, after The Burn. In the episode, “All Is Possible” this season, fan-favorite Tilly (Mary Wiseman) leads a group of cadets on an away mission that goes sideways. This episode had fans speculating that Wiseman’s character would make a perfect teacher at the new Starfleet Academy in Discovery’s timeline.
Deadline also reported Absentia co-creator Gaia Violo is working on a pitch that should be delivered shortly. Hopefully, we’ll know soon after that. It will be exciting to find out the premise, for sure.
