An article from Variety has revealed an additional character for Star Trek: Section 31. Longtime fans of Star Trek will be thrilled to discover the identity of the character. This is because they have a history with the Franchise that stretches back to Star Trek: The Next Generation season 3.
Variety’s article, “The Future of Star Trek,” assesses the state of the Franchise at the age of 58. However, Trekkies will be especially interested in the segment that centers on Section 31. In this section, it is revealed that the movie will include young Rachel Garrett, played by Kacey Rohl.
Yesterday’s Enterprise, Today
This information is especially revelatory because so little is currently known about Section 31. However, we do know the upcoming special event movie set to debut on Paramount+. Furthermore, the movie will star Michelle Yeoh, who will reprise the role of Phillipa Georgiou. In January 2024, when filming on Section 31 began, Rohl was announced as a cast member, although her character had not been revealed. Other cast members revealed at the time were Omari Hardwick, Sam Richardson, Sven Ruygrok, Robert Kazinsky, Humberly Gonzalez and James Hiroyuki Liao.

As for the character, Garrett was introduced in TNG season 3’s “Yesterday’s Enterprise.” In that episode, it was revealed that Garrett was the captain of the USS Enterprise-C, the predecessor to TNG‘s USS Enterprise-D. The episode is memorable for many reasons, including the return of Tasha Yar (Denise Crosby) from the Black Mountain. Furthermore, the older version of Garrett (Tricia O’Neil) played an important role in the episode. Serving as a point of perspective for having to accept the Temporal Prime Directive, Garrett must make the decision to return the Enterprise-C to the point in the timeline at which it will be destroyed.
However, in the years since TNG, Garrett hasn’t been forgotten by the Franchise. In the opening episode of Star Trek: Picard season 3, “The Next Generation,” a statue of Garrett at the Starfleet recruitment center plays a supporting narrative role.
