Trekkies rejoice! The Michelle Yeoh-starring Star Trek: Section 31 special event movie has entered production. To celebrate, Paramount has revealed additional Section 31 cast members. Furthermore, a production photo featuring Yeoh holding a clapboard has been released.
Star Trek: Section 31
The long-rumored and highly-anticipated Section 31 sees the Oscar Award-winning Yeoh reprising her role as Phillipa Georgiou. Like Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Section 31 is a spinoff of Star Trek: Discovery. In April 2023, it was announced that Section 31 would take the form of a “special event movie” on Paramount+.

But just where Section 31 will fit into the Star Trek timeline remains to be seen. While the surviving Georgiou’s story began in the 23rd Century, she subsequently joined the rest of Discovery‘s crew as they traveled to the 32nd Century. Furthermore, there are gaps in her narrative timeline (including between Discovery seasons 1 and 2, when she joined the titular secret security organization). And making matters more complicated still is the fact that Georgiou’s arc on the show concluded with her entering the Guardian of Forever and traveling to an unknown point on the timeline. However, it’s worth noting that the door behind Georgiou in the official image (below) looks a lot like the doors on Discovery.
The seven cast members announced for the special event movie offer no clarity on the chronology, as they are not returning Trek actors. They include Omari Hardwick, Kacey Rohl, Sam Richardson, Sven Ruygrok, Robert Kazinsky, Humberly Gonzalez and James Hiroyuki Liao.

Along with Section 31, multiple additional Star Trek movies have been announced. One is the fourth entry in the Star Trek (2009) Kelvin timeline series, long rumored to be in pre-production. Another is a Star Trek movie starring Patrick Stewart. And yet another is a recently announced Kelvin timeline prequel. Which one are you most excited to see?
