The first episode of Star Trek premiered on September 8th, 1966. That date is now forever known as Star Trek DayTo celebrate today’s 55th anniversary of the date, Paramount+ presented a live-streamed celebration of the iconic franchise.

This year Wil Wheaton and Mica Burton returned to host the Star Trek Day celebration live from the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles. The evening included back-to-back panels with cast members and creators from 10 Star Trek television series. At the end of the evening, Jeri Ryan made an appearance and revealed the Star Trek: Picard season two trailer, and it is a ride! Also announced during Star Trek Day is that the series will be coming back for a third season in 2023. But let’s stick to the second season for now.

I’m a sucker for time travel and the Picard trailer revealed that the second season will visit the going-back-in-time to-fix-something-wrong-in-the-present trope. To make it even better, it’s Q (John de Lancie) that causes the problem. Yes! Picard’s biggest nemesis Q is back to make his life miserable. But wait, you ask. Isn’t the Borg Queen his biggest nemesis? Well, she’s back, too!

Seeing the return of Q and the Borg Queen (played this season by Annie Wersching) in this trailer wasn’t a surprise. Easter eggs revealing their return were dropped in a teaser back in April. However, seeing these iconic characters actually onscreen was exhilarating and now we know somewhat how they fit into Picard’s second season.

Q returns to make Picard’s (Patrick Stewart) life Hell. In this instance, Q reminds Picard of his words to him long ago, “The trial never ends.” Then, with a snap a la Thanos, he changes the current world into a “totalitarian nightmare.” It’s a grim place and according to Picard, “The only way to heal our future is to go back and repair the past.” When in the past? The 21st century. How are they going to get there? Well, they’ll need to go see about a Borg Queen about that. I am so in.

Check out the trailer below! Picard returns to Paramount+ February 2022.

Star Trek: Picard stars Patrick Stewart, Jeri Ryan, Alison Pill, Isa Briones, Evan Evagora, Michelle Hurd, Santiago Cabrera, Orla Brady and Brent Spiner.
