STAR TREK: PICARD Is Bringing an Old Frenemy, Transformed

Star Trek: Picard will debut on CBS All Access in just over a month.  And, it looks like Jean-Luc (Patrick Stewart) will be dealing with another familiar face.  Former Borg drone Hugh (Jonathan Del Arco) is coming back.

Hugh was injured in the episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation entitled I, Borg.  It’s a fan favorite.  You likely know it.  I don’t need to tell you.  Okay, I’ll tell you.  Hugh was injured and while he was being nursed back to health, he made friends with Geordi (Lavar Burton) who gave him his human moniker.  Hugh became an ally to those on the Enterprise and rejected the Borg.  We can expect him to be helpful now as well, as Picard picks up 20 years after the events of STNG.

Hugh is returning way less Borg-y.  He’s only got remnants of the Borg metal in his face in the first-look photo from TV Line.  It looks as if he may have had his Borg-ness surgically removed, which could be a cool angle… and probably necessary, right?

Hugh will join Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan), Data (Brent Spiner), Riker (Jonathan Frakes) and Troi (Marina Sirtis) in a parade of characters that will be revisited in the new show.  We can’t wait!!

Star Trek: Picard premieres January 23rd, 2020.
