Going where no crew has ever gone before! Star Trek: Lower Decks blessed us with a full-length trailer ahead of its August 6th premiere date. The Star Trek animated spin-off will air weekly episodes on streaming service CBS All Access and is slated for a 10-episode season. From the mind of Rick and Morty writer/producer Mike McMahanStar Trek: Lower Decks follows the ensigns aboard the U.S.S. Cerritos, one of the Starfleets least important ships. Shenanigans ensue. There’s malarkey. Perhaps even a smitten of mayhem and bedlam.

According to the synopsis, we’ll get a taste of crew life in 2380 as they’re “keeping up with their duties and their social lives while the ship is being rocked by a multitude of sci-fi anomalies.”

In the trailer below, we see our ensigns adjusting to life working the lower decks on the U.S.S. Cerritos. There’s Rutherford (Eugene Cordero), Mariner (Tawny Newsome), Biomler (Jack Quaid), and Tendi (Noël Wells). We see them deal with their larger-than-life bosses, Captain Freeman (Dawnn Lewis), Lieutenant Shaxs (Fred Tatasciore), and Commander Ramson (Jerry O’Connell). Discovering new worlds and new alien creatures. Not to mention, working hard for that much-deserved promotion to the upper deck.

Now, I’m excited for this. We could use more TV series that are just plain fun. Nothing more, nothing less. “Cotton candy TV,” as I like to call it. Plus, it appears to be heavily influenced by Rick and Morty‘s signature humor. Give me more animated comedies, universe!

Below, you can take a gander at the trailer. Then, prepare to be beamed up on Thursday, August 6th for the Star Trek: Lower Decks premiere on CBS All Access.
