This week’s Star Trek: Lower Decks episode, “Something Borrowed, Something Green,” whisks us away to Orion, where we finally get some much-needed Tendi backstory. (Although, Orions have been around since Star Trek‘s first pilot episode, “The Cage.”) It’s a damn delight. Season 4 Episode 4 allows our gals to deepen their bond without the fellas. Besides, “Brotherford” has their own thing going anyway, which involves Mark Twain and a devoured bonsai tree.

This outing has significant character development, from T’Lyn’s growth to Boimler and Rutherford learning to get along as roommates. Seriously, how cool is it when T’Lyn tosses her research out the window because it makes Tendi uncomfortable? Documenting a little-known planet could’ve boosted her career. But, as she says, Orion will have to remain undocumented.

I’ve compiled a list of my favorite quotes from “Something Borrowed, Something Green” to celebrate the best triple-threat girls’ trip. Cerritos Strong!

TENDI: “So, what’s gonna spill first? Your mouth or your guts? [to T’LYN and MARINER] I heard that in a holo-movie.”

The Mistress of the Winter Constellations, aka Tendi (Noël Wells), knows a thing or two about spilling guts. Her fierce reputation on Orion precedes her. There’s just something hilarious about Tendi, our perpetual beacon of sunshine, sounding like a formidable, ruthless killer. Hey, Orions are pretty adept at creating holo-movies, so her “excuse” checks out.

[KO’KAR screams]

BOIMLER: “Okay, maybe you try that in a Southern accent.”

KO’KAR: “I’m from South Chalnoth; that was a Southern accent!”

I say, Boimler (Jack Quaid) and Rutherford (Eugene Cordero) try very hard to keep the peace between the Cerritos and Ko’Kar. Also, how does one scream in a Southern accent? Has Boimler ever been to South Chalnoth? If only dressing as Mark Twain and talking in an old-timey accent in a holodeck simulation solved all my problems.

FREEMAN: “What the hell made you two think this would work?”

RUTHERFORD: “We were arguing a lot, and we both dressed like Mark Twain –“

BOIMLER: “Something about us talking old-timey helped us figure out who should water our bonsai.”

Captain Freeman (Dawnn Lewis) tolerates quite a lot of hijinks from the Cerritos crew. No wonder she was the most stressed at that spa she attended with the engineers. Freeman suppresses that sh*t and keeps it under lock and key until she explodes. It’s hysterical to me that Boims and Ruthy channel their frustration via a Mark Twain-themed simulation re: who gets to water their bonsai tree instead of openly communicating like, you know, healthy communicating adults.

T’LYN: “Incorrect. You are who you choose to be — a Starfleet lieutenant and a loyal friend.”

MARINER: “Don’t worry, we know you’re a big nerd and not some hot assassin.”

TENDI: “That’s the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me.”

T’Lyn (Gabrielle Ruiz) is quickly becoming one of my favorite characters. She’s shown tremendous growth over these past four episodes alone and appears to be pretty fond of the group. I love the words of encouragement she and Mariner (Tawny Newsome) impart in this scene. And that Tendi takes being a “big nerd” as more of a compliment than a “hot assassin.” Starfleet science stuff for the win.
