Beam us up, Star Trek: Lower Decks! The Star Trek animated spin-off now has an official premiere date on CBS All Access! TV Line reports that fans can expect the series to launch on Thursday, August 6th. After the premiere, new episodes will be available to stream weekly every Thursday.
Now, Star Trek: Lower Decks focuses on the crew aboard the U.S.S. Cerritos — the Starfleet’s least vital vessel. According to the synopsis, we’ll get a taste of crew life as they’re “keeping up with their duties and their social lives while the ship is being rocked by a multitude of sci-fi anomalies.” The animated comedy is the brainchild of Rick and Morty veteran Mike McMahan. I think it’s safe to assume a similar brand of humor will colorize Star Trek: Lower Decks.
So, who’s manning this lesser-known ship in the Starfleet? Ensign Rutherford (Eugene Cordero), Ensign Mariner (Tawny Newsome), Ensign Boimler (Jack Quaid), and Ensign Tendi (Noël Wells). In addition, Jerry O’Connell will portray Commander Ramson, Dawnn Lewis is Captain Freeman, and Fred Tatasciore is voicing Lieutenant Shaxs.
Now, this series has been in the making since October 2018, when two seasons of Star Trek: Lower Decks were ordered straight-to-series. CBS All Access is really ramping up their Star Trek content as of late. There’s Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Picard as the streaming service’s current offerings. Not to mention, a new series starring Michelle Yeoh and a U.S.S. Enterprise-centric show entitled Strange New Worlds are in the works.
So, be sure to set those phasers to stun later this summer, Trekkies!
Star Trek: Lower Decks premieres Thursday, August 6th followed by weekly installments on CBS All Access.
