Ensigns D'Vana Tendi (Noël Wells), Bradward Boimler (Jack Quaid), Beckett Mariner (Tawny Newsome), and Samathan Rutherford (Eugene Cordero). They are sitting around a table at Siskos and sharing a meal, with hot sauce.

The third season premiere of Star Trek: Lower Decks season 3 arrives for streaming on Paramount Plus on Thursday, August 25, 2022. Although the last couple of days always seem like the longest, the Lower Decks Advent Calendar is here to help! Try not to “Boimler scream” as you complete your final few duty shifts and wait for the third season to arrive.

Tuesday

For today’s Time Travel Trek Tuesday, choose one from this selection of classic temporal-themed episodes.

  1. Star Trek: The Original Series Season 1, Episode 28, “The City on the Edge of Forever.” The time travel episode that launched a thousand time travel episodes! Featuring a first draft written by Harlan Ellison (and a subsequent draft by an uncredited Gene L. Coon and D.C. Fontana), this episode introduces The Guardian of Forever.
  2. Star Trek: The Next Generation Season 5, Episode 18, “Cause and Effect.” The Enterprise-D is caught in an explosive time loop! In the Lower Decks season 2 episode “I, Excretus,” the Cerritos rescues the Bakersfield from a time loop. However, that all occurs off-screen, because our Lower Deckers get left on a satellite during the six-hour adventure. This episode is directed by Titan Cap Jonathan Frakes!
  3. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Season 5, Episode 6, “Trials and Tribble-ations.” Captain Benjamin Sisko (Avery Brooks) must recount the tale of the Defiant traveling back in time to a pair of agents from Temporal Investigations.
  4. Star Trek: Discovery Season 1, Episode 7, “Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad.” The Discovery crew attempts to enjoy a party! But instead, Harry Mudd (Rainn Wilson) traps them in a time loop. Mudd makes another appearance in the Star Trek: Short Treks episode “The Escape Artist.” This Short Treks episode was written by Lower Decks creator Mike McMahan.
