As Captain Carol Freeman (Dawnn Lewis) says, humanity has a complicated relationship with religion. Fortunately, we collectively have a good relationship with Star Trek: Lower Decks. The third season of the animated comedy arrives on Paramount Plus on Thursday, August 25, 2022. Wondering how to pass the time until the first episode of the season, “Grounded,” is available for streaming? Enter the Star Trek: Lower Decks Advent Calendar.
For each of the 24 days left until the show returns, we have a Star Trek (or Trek-adjacent) episode, movie or activity. Clean the slime off your uniform and get ready. We’re only a few weeks away from launch!

Monday
Watch Season 2, Episode 8: “I, Excretus.”
This one thinks it’s a good idea to start with the finest hour of Ensign Bradward Boimler (Jack Quaid). Or his finest hour so far. After proving he can manage 100 percent on the Borg drill, Boimler’s efforts save the Cerritos. Good thing he came back from the Titan!
Tuesday
Choose one from this selection of classic Star Trek episodes that inspired the “I, Excretus” drills.
- Star Trek: The Original Series Season 2, Episode 4: “Mirror, Mirror”
- Star Trek: The Next Generation Season 5, Episode 16: “Ethics”
- Star Trek: Voyager Season 6, Episode 16: “Collective” (Baby Borg!)

Friday
Check out Solar Opposites on Hulu.
This sci-fi nightmare was co-created by Stark Trek: Lower Decks progenitor Mike McMahan and Justin Roiland (Rick and Morty). There are plenty of Trek references: in Season 3, Korvo even calls Earth an “M-class hellhole.” Like Star Trek: Lower Decks, this show is about character foils. But unlike it, you would not want to get a drink with these characters.
Saturday
Movie night! Watch Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.
Not only did The Wrath of Khan inspire the advertising for Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 2, it’s pretty clear that Ensign Beckett Mariner (Tawny Newsome) likes to channel the eponymous Khan. However, if this wasn’t obvious from “Crisis Point,” follow Khan up with Season 2, Episode 5, “An Embarrassment of Dooplers.”

Sunday
Watch Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Season 7, Episode 1: “Image in the Sand.”
After leaving Deep Space 9, Captain Benjamin Sisko (Avery Brooks) returns to Earth and works in his father’s restaurant, “Sisko’s Creole Kitchen.” However, the Star Trek: Lower Decks trailer has revealed that this location (and several other elements included in the episode) will appear in the third season.
Monday
Watch Lower Decks Season 1, Episode 10: “No Small Parts.”
It’s the Titan! There’s no better way to conclude the first season (or the first week of the Lower Decks Advent Calendar).
Come back next Tuesday for another week of Duty Shift assignments in the Star Trek: Lower Decks Advent Calendar – Part 2!
