Star Trek: Discovery‘s sophomore season won’t show up on our TV screens until January, but never fear. Discovery is boldly going into four stand-alone short films called Short Treks. The first, entitled Runaway, has a very intriguing trailer released Thursday.
Ensign Tilly (Mary Wiseman) is the star of the first Short Treks, and she has a visitor that shows up in a pretty alarming way. The 10 to 15 minute film is written by Jenny Lumet and showrunner/co-creator Alex Kurtzman. According to Deadline, Kurtzman said that the Short Treks films are meant to “deliver closed-ended stories while revealing clues about what’s to come in future Star Trek: Discovery episodes. They’ll also introduce audiences to new characters who may inhabit the larger world of Star Trek.”

The other three Short Treks will be centered around a new character, Craft (Aldis Hodge), Saru (Doug Jones), and fan favorite, Harry Mudd (Rainn Wilson).
The first STAR TREK: SHORT TREKS is titled “Runaway” and stars Mary Wiseman as “Tilly.” Each short will run approximately 10-15 minutes and will be an opportunity for fans to dive deeper into key themes and characters that fit into the STAR TREK: DISCOVERY and expanding “Star Trek” universe.
Runaway will premiere on CBS All Access, October 4th.
