Star Trek: Discovery has an official trailer for its sophomore season. It is jam-packed with action, adventure, danger, prophecy and Spock. We at GGA are very very excited about it.
The Discovery crew is teaming up with Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) in season 2. They are on a mission to unlock the secrets of seven red “bursts” being broadcast throughout space. Those signals herald the coming of a creature they call “the red angel” which carries a message of destruction and is shown in the trailer only in monstrous silhouette and long, spindly fingers.

A bearded, scruffy Spock (Ethan Peck) plays prominently, as we expected. And, he seems to be the key to understanding what is happening. The red angel showed Spock an “apocalyptic vision”. He says, “Someone or something is going to end all sentient life in the galaxy.” That’s a problem.
Section 31 is also getting involved. And, the trailer seems to set up a conflict between diplomacy and force. Section 31 is treating the red angel as a threat, and that may be very true. But, might it be warning them? Is it the messenger or the destructor? Or, both?
We see interpersonal sibling conflict between Spock and Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green), a montage full of danger, phasers, and making out? And, we get some of the wit that Discovery delighted fans with in season one. Pike notices a smile on Spock’s face, as they run toward the danger. The camera cuts to a straight-faced Spock, who admits his enjoyment… in the most Vulcan way.
