Stan Lee just turned 94 the other day. The man who kicked off the Silver-Age of comics, along with Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko, has been the face of Marvel ever since. He’s popularized phrases like “Excelsior!” and has convinced entire generations to call him “Generalissimo.”
Being the face of Marvel has it’s perks and, among them, is getting to have a cameo appearance in every Marvel film since the X-Men film hit theatres in 2000. Seventeen years of Stan Lee cameos. Stan Lee has been doing cameos for the life span of someone now of legal age to smoke.
The YouTube channel, YouTube Master, uploaded the video earlier in May of this year, so we know it’s not made in honor of Lee’s birthday. However, other than sitting down with a cup of coffee to read Amazing Fantasy #15 or Fantastic Four #1, we can think of no better way.
What’s great about this video is it acts as a time capsule, recovering movies and moments you may have forgotten about. For instance, Stan Lee’s cameo in Amazing Spider-Man as a librarian listening to music while Spidey and Lizard fight. Or the cameo he had in Ang Lee’s Hulk walking with Lou Ferrigno as security guards.
Or Daredevil. Remember — that was once a movie, and Stan Lee was a man who almost walked into a street until young Matt Murdock stopped him.
The fact is, Stan Lee has been in every Marvel movie, including Big Hero Six, since 2000, except for maybe Elektra. We can’t remember because nobody saw that movie.
